Are there any Jewish fairy tales you don't believe in?

If Elie was in a Nazi concentration camp why did he survive?  After all, the fairy tale claims that the Nazis killed 6 million in them so why did they spare so many?  Were they collaborators?  The guy made it through without getting a scratch and he spent the rest of his life yakking about how bad he had it.  It was the best thing to happen to him.  He got fame and fortune from the experience and it helped him to have a far longer life than most people have.

bold mine

There is so much truth in this statement. Speaking from personal experience and knowing others who have been through similar tragedies as my own, I can assure you... the silence of bystanders never helps the victim at all.

Rest in peace Elie. You were, it seems, a good man. If nothing else, you did good: the world is a better place for having you in it. That's all any of us can ask of ourselves.

Don't worry, my friend.  If this be the end, then so shall it be.

I know responding to this jackass is like mud-wrestling a pig. It's not going to do anything to change his mind, but, as a student of this period of history (of both sides), I simply cannot let these points go unanswered.

From what I understand, this is a question with a very complex answer. To simplify a remarkably complex facet of history, The Nazis talked a good game about destroying the Jews, but, privately, they weren't entirely sure about what to do about them, with no less a figure than Goebbels having initial misgivings about the whole enterprise. Eventually they settled on the camps in 1941. And if you want to know why they kept some alive, here's the thing: First, it's actually pretty difficult to actually pull the whole enterprise off, especially if you want to keep it a secret, which they did; there's a war on, and making it public knowledge to potential allies that, if victorious, we'll see more of this shit is very likely to alienate any potential allies. The crematoria, as vast as they were, only had a fairly finite capacity, only able to destroy 5700 bodies per day. Meanwhile, you can use the ones who haven't died yet for slave labor. The more physically strong ones coming in were more likely to survive the war. And, of course, I would be remiss in my information if I failed to note that, if the war had gone on for a few more months, there would be far fewer survivors.

Also, it's only six million if you don't count the goyim. Counting all the Polish christians, Communists, Soviet civilians and POWs, gays, and other undesirables, it's 11 million at least. And if you count people who got into summary executions before they ever saw the inside of a concentration camp, it's almost certainly higher.

Sadly, there were. No, Elie wasn't one of them, and no, it doesn't even come close to explaining how all the survivors wound up surviving.

Um, I wouldn't exactly call being deprived of food (and oftentimes, water) for little over a year, having your father killed, having people all around you dropping like flies and knowing full well that only either the grace of God or sheer dumb luck separates you from them, "making it through without a scratch." Then again, I'm not the jackass here.

The Nazis were dummies because if they had really wanted to kill off the Jews they would have locked them up in their cities and let the Allies kill them with  fire bombs.

The Nazis didn't have any allies to be worried about so they didn't have to worry about their feelings.

The people in the concentration camps were a big drain on the Nazi war effort and the net benefit of housing and trying to feed them was negative.  If the Allies had been concerned about the internees' welfare it would have kept them fed.  They didn't even want to liberate Paris because it slowed the war effort taking care of so many people.

As the Gulf War & Gitmo proved once again, it's foolish to take prisoners during wartime.

Was Elie just another con man like his buddy Bernie Madoff?

NaZi Germany did indeed have allies. Perhaps you should learn some history before spouting off about it?

Hope that helps.

-Elie Wiesel, Night

I read Night about 10 years ago, it sits on my bookshelf and I won't read it again as it gave me nightmares.

I wrote on Facebook today that he stuck his finger in the eye of the Nazis who wanted him dead by living a nice long life with a wife and children.

RIP Elie Wiesel.

I feel the same way. I can't read it again. My heart aches. The world needs more people like him who refuse to be silent.

On the other hand, silence is a virtue for Holocaust denying fucktards.

Do you call worthless troops like a few muslim collaborators and other fifth columnists real allies?  Japan was on the other side of the world up to its neck with its own problems.  Italy had nothing to contribute. The French traitors added nothing of value.  That was their pitiful gang.
