Finished the "Lorien Legacies" series today. Some surprising turns along the way and not the happy happy Disney ending that may looked for. All in all, "United as One" was a fitting ending to the series.

Now I can get back to the Joe Abercrombie book I interrupted.

I recently read "While the City Slept" by Eli Sanders. It's an account of the events leading up to the brutal rape and attack on two women in their home in Seattle and the aftermath about 6-7 years ago. One of the women (Teresa Butz) died in the attack. The author also writes about how the killer, a young mentally ill man who sneaked into an open window on a mild summer night, failed to receive help from his family or the mental health system that could have prevented the attack.

After reading the book, I did a "Teresa Butz" check of the windows and doors of my home every evening for about a month.

Listened to the audio book of "Split Decision" by David Baldacci. It's the first part of the King and Maxwell series. Very good political thriller.

Been reading Elizabeth Strout this summer. Started with her newest, "I am Lucy Barton"; then "The Burgess Boys" and now I'm reading the one for which she got the Pulitzer price, "Olive Kittridge". But the last one I completed was "A Spool of Blue Thread" by Anne Tyler on my wife's recommendation. All quite enjoyable. As a guy pretty driven by figuring it all out, then career and finally gardening I got to tell you what a luxury it is to simply go visit these fictional, alternative worlds and try out how it feels to experience the world through someone else's eyes.

Yeah, I'll pass. I actually looked it up, too.

Listening to the audio books of the second Percy Jackson series. Not quite as much fun as the first series, but still terrific.

Finally managed to score an ebook copy of "Those Below" by Daniel Polansky for just $12.12 thanks to the weak Pound. Now that I have both books, "The Empty Throne" duology is next up on the "to-read" list. I might not even finish the urban fantasy plodder I'm currently dragging myself through.

This thread popping up reminds me that I finished a book recently...
Aldous Huxley's Brave New World.
A classic, I know.... a classic I had never read, like many other classics...
I'll get there.
Now reading my first ever Shakespeare... Othello.. I have no idea if I started with a goodie or a toughie... oh well... Wink

I need to put "Brave New World" back on the list for a re-read.

The Bard is already on the list, though he keeps getting pushed back due to my favorite authors publishing faster than I can read. Big Grin

In the middle of The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear by Walter Moers. It's one of the funniest books I've read in a long time, and, though it's about 700 pages, they all fly by.
