Indeed, the word "mutilation", is a nasty word, and it should replace the word "circumcision", because that is what it is all about. Quite frankly, so many parents have been brainwashed or scaremongered into taking this decision and cutting off a piece of their child. There is nothing really more to add when you read the word "brainwashed." In fact, circumcision/religion go hand in hand as far as brainwashing is concerned and there should be at least some people out there who are proactive by giving talks about the pros of being uncut. Sorry to say, but genital mutilation should have stayed back in the dark ages. It has no place in the 21st century apart from religious reasons and even then. As for Catholic Lady, being mutilated is not a good way of keeping the John Thomas in good health. In fact, cleaning it takes less time than blowing your nose, but no, why not make sure your child suffers for the rest of his life because you don't think your future child will be hygienic.

There are a lot of cases where it's ok for parents to make a decision for their child.

For example, my parents took me to the orthodontist when I was a kid and put me in braces. Did they ask for my consent? No. I was a kid and didn't know any better. If they had asked, I'm sure I would have said no way, considering how painful and annoying and scary those dang things were. But now that I'm an adult, I'm really grateful that they made that decision for me. Sure, they could have held off and let me make that decision for myself when I was old enough, but I'm glad they didn't. I'm glad I have straight teeth already and that I don't have to worry about finding the money for braces if I wanted them, or have to worry about dealing with it as a grown adult.

...It is the same type of thinking that parents use when they decide to circumcise their sons while they are babies rather than waiting for them to make their own mind about it when they are older. And again, I'm not saying one decision is "right" over the other (whether doing it while they're young, or letting them do it for themselves), but merely pointing out that there is validity to wanting to get it out of your son's way while it's easiest for him to deal with.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

The only reason I'm not cut, is because my grandma's family aint all from round hur, lol.  War baby of a war bride.

All of my relations on my grandfathers side, down to my generation and up to him, all cut.  Now they (my grandparents) didn't end up having any sons, but my grandmother managed to impose her family's narrative and traditions upon their daughters, who in turn kindly declined the knife when offered.  Even my half brothers are uncut despite their father being cut.  Imagine the conversations you have, with your grandmother, to figure this sort of shit out, lol.

So I just grew up without the casual and uninformed acceptance that many americans have for the practice.  I didn't even know that fgm was a thing until, like, a few years ago....and immediately it jumped out at me as heinous shit.  The first thing that comes to mind, for me, is "What if someone cut part of my dick off, this is horrid, it needs to be stopped!".

So, maybe there's a "pro" to leaving it un-snipped, ladies.  We'll be able, as men, to immediately identify, with no hypocrisy or irony....just why you should be allowed to keep your clits?  Here's to hoping for a better tomorrow, full of un-mutilated dong and vag, and the communal understanding which they grant us. A world in which neither sex looks at the other sex's sexy bits and thinks to themselves.... "that, is filthy".

With respect CL, I don't think you can compare the two different surgical procedures. For a start, the average to have a brace is between 12 and 13 years of age. Anyway, only one of those is actually beneficial and positive for a child and he/she will grow up knowing that within a few years, he/she will have nice, shiny, straight teeth. So, the brace is simply temporary and therefore the damage is there temporarily however, the mutilated body part will forever be there, whether he likes it or not and he will be mentally scarred forever.

Benefits of circumcision have already been posted by both myself and egg. You just don't agree with them, or think they are worthy.

The only benefit braces gave me were nicer looking teeth.

Can I be honest? I just don't care about circumcision. If your tribe does it and you don't find it hard to live with, go for it. I know I had a hard night's sleep after having Smokey castrated .. but I'm over it. He's happy. My circumcised wiener is happy. I've got more important things to worry about.

Besides, how can we be sure the anti-circumcision guys aren't simply arguing to have all penises look like their own. And where would that leave us sharpened pencils? I'd prefer to be the one with the 'normal' wiener. Nice try un-cut nazis.

How bad a person does that make me? I mean, as a pro-choicer I'm resigned to fetal death and dismemberment on demand. Compared with that a stylish gonadal nip and tuck is small potatoes.

-and genital mutilation is one of them.  So, also a-okay on parents deciding to opt for the surgical removal of a clitoris, right? Or is that little bastion of femininity somehow sacred in ways that a mans dick isn't? It doesn't work, does it, you can't put the two next to each other. You're too committed, already, and you didn't even decide to commit yourself, you just got indoctrinated.

@Whatevs...
The rub, if you will, is that the circumcisee -isn't- "going for it".  People are going -at- his it, on day 1. Before he;s even born, his loving parents will have deliberated amongst themselves, on what they plan to lop off and what they don't. I don;t have a problem with someone cutting off their own dick either, that's none of my business, but not what we're talking about.

Bolded part is mine.

That is from a strictly Christian, or indeed Catholic point of view. I mean, give me a nice woman anytime who is actually clean and uncut, rather than a woman who maybe cut and unclean. As for hygiene, cut or uncut, there is absolutely no difference except that as "uncut", men, we take pride in (I do anyway) our bits and make sure they are as clean as a car in a showroom, sparkly clean. Whereas a cut peen, well, I am sure there are men who take a more relaxed approach and thus get into a false sense of security thinking they are clean when in reality.......
