Well he gave the analogy of the way we disregard ants. If the AI became far more intelligent than ourselves then it may treat us with similar disregard.

Can we build AI without losing control over it? | Sam Harris

So, do you know how an actual AI will act and look like when (if) it becomes a reality?

And nor can he because we don't know what form the AI will take. It's a case of "oooh AI scary!" i.e. fear mongering So come on, you tell me how AI can be a threat. Let's discuss each hypothetical scenario. (November 4, 2016 at 5:09 pm)Alasdair Ham Wrote: Well he gave the analogy of the way we disregard ants. I don't see much of a bear apocalypse going on right now.
I see you still haven't read Bostrom's work on the matter, since I last directed you to it, Mathilda.

How likely is it in this fictional scenario that an AI, created by humans, surpasses human intellect? How should that work, apart from processing power, energy and self repair routines needed, since the AI is a threat in this scenario. So it can't expect to be serviced by humans. No not faulty. Like why do people kill ants? Because most people have more important things on their minds and don't give a shit. They're pests.
We're talking about a distant future where AI is far more smart than us, has a mind of its own and has its own interests. |
