Ohio School Districts Suspend Student Bible Clubs Amid Complaints by Nation's Largest Atheist Group

The Columbus Dispatch reported Monday that two schools in Fairfield County have temporarily suspended their Bible clubs in response to a complaint letter sent by the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

"[FFRF] sent letters to four school districts regarding Bible studies held in eight high schools, junior high schools and middle schools before class or on lunch breaks," reported the Dispatch.
"Such groups violate protections of separation of church and state if they are led or regularly attended by local pastors, said Ryan Jayne, a legal fellow at the Wisconsin-based foundation."

I don't see why everyone-gets-a-group wouldn't be as neutral as no-one-gets-a-group.  That's probably the rub though.  When the Satanists apply, they can't say no.

Mississippi public school cancels prayer service due to FFRF letter

The Oak Park Elementary School in Ocean Springs, Miss., was all set to host a back-to-school prayer service yesterday. The Ocean Springs School District was partnering with local churches to put on the event. Superintendent Bonita Coleman planned to participate. A similar event was held last year.

FFRF stressed to the school district that this was a blatant violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.

Half of Americans who have left their church no longer believe in God, leading a surge of nearly one quarter of the nation who have no affiliation with any religion, according to a new survey.

Many respondents who mention 'science' as the reason they do not believe in religious teachings, including one who said 'I'm a scientist now, and I don't believe in miracles.' Others reference 'common sense,' 'logic' or a 'lack of evidence' – or simply say they do not believe in God."

Reading those, it's clear that Christianity is failing because of its own failings, not because of some super-secret atheist conspiracy to keep people away from church like many Christians would have everyone believe.  I've often said that Christianity has done more to drive people away from it than anything we atheists could ever hope to do.

Seems like Obama is trying to protect atheists from upcoming rule of religious zealots:

President Obama signed into law the Frank Wolf International Religious Freedom Act that, among many other things, “protects atheists, humanists, and other freethinkers around the world [including America] from religious persecution.” What that means for American Secular Humanists, agnostics, atheists and other nonreligious persons is that they are now explicitly named as “a class” protected by an “Act” that was quietly and unceremoniously signed into law last week. The new law was an update, and a much-needed upgrade, to the 1998 International Religious Freedom Act that states:

“The freedom of thought, conscience, and religion is understood to protect theistic and non-theistic beliefs as well as the right not to profess or practice any religion.”

Britain really is ceasing to be a Christian country

For the first time in recorded history, those declaring themselves to have no religion have exceeded the number of Christians in Britain. Some 44 per cent of us regard ourselves as Christian, 8 per cent follow another religion and 48 per cent follow none. The decline of Christianity is perhaps the biggest single change in Britain over the past century. For some time, it has been a stretch to describe Britain as a Christian country. We can more accurately be described now as a secular nation with fading Christian institutions.

Just found this! Wow, this is awesome. I'm a little surprised. Britain being a "Christian country" is going to increasingly be of no consequence.

I don't see why everyone-gets-a-group wouldn't be as neutral as no-one-gets-a-group.  That's probably the rub though.  When the Satanists apply, they can't say no.

The other problem with "everyone gets" is when it comes to space and resources. For example, if everyone gets a statue in front of the courthouse, you'd quickly run out of room. So it's better and easier to just have people do their own shit in their own private places and leave the public to the public.
