Nerdfest 2 ... The Word Clock ...

Hi guys... I made a youtube vid of my latest gadget for the house.
(Yes, you can all hear my horrible Aussie accent)
From a technical perspective, you just need a raspberry pi (that's a little $30 computer for those with blonde hair).
You also need a cheap $20 string of leds from ebay.
The rest is just cosmetic stuff like the casing, perspex, buttons, power supply, etc.
All the required files and instructions can be found on github. Search wordclock github for further instructions.
PS, I've included several plugins also so its functionality becomes a lot more than just a clock.
Catch guys.

You suck at word clock tetris!
This is cool as shit and I'm making one.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Pretty nifty!
What is the number scroll at 11 seconds and again at 1 min 10 seconds?

From memory, the first one was Melbourne's current temp: 36 degrees and the second one IP: is the IP address of the WiFi on the unit. Good for ssh'ing into it to make adjustments...

It's 36 degrees here in Pennsylvania too.
Just a... different sort of 36 degrees...

That is awesome!!
How long did it take you to build?
Did you program the Pi? or is it something you got off the net?
All my Pi does is ssh server so I can tunnel from somewhere else into my home... and http server for shits and giggles.

Alternatively, you could just go here.

Boru, yes, that's what normal people should do...
Poca, I'm not a Linux geek by any stretch...
I knew I could make it, soldering, wiring, reading schematics, etc but I wasn't sure if I could get the sw to run.
So I wired it up very roughly, had it hooked up with a nic directly connected to my monitor's HDMI.
Chucked on a spare keyboard, mouse.
Because Bernd Krolla's instructions were step by step, I followed it precisely... If I encountered any incompatible libraries, etc, I would've quickly gone into panic mode. Luckily everything went according to plan.
Just use standard latest rasp OS and install the programs as in the doc files on the website.. No stress.
It was easier than I thought.
PS, the first cheapo USB WiFi from eBay gave me grief, so I bought the wipi, the official pi WiFi adapter and was good to go. What I like the most about this setup is that you use a barebones pi b+. No rtc etc, or anything.
It get's the correct time off the net every time it boots up. Great for after blackouts!

MH, put one of the dogs on, I'll explain again.
I only speak some dialects of BARK. I'm from the north, is that a problem?
