Always been curious about this one lol. Asked my muslim friend and he had no clue. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is the logic is that men go to war and women traditionally don't (at least in Arabia), therefore the can be shortage of men at times so multiple women will partner with a single man. Interestingly, if you visit certain Himalayan cultures the opposite is true and women have multiple husbands (polandry). In that case it's because there is a scarcity of good land. P.S. Wikipedia has an entire article with the following title: Polygamy in Christianity You might like to take a look. Most of these posts don't seem like genuine questions at all. Mostly just loaded questions and making fun of him. I don't want to come off annoying like I'm trying to lecture everyone all the time, but I feel like this is a bit of a problem. Isn't it better to discuss things with people who have opposing beliefs and view points? Anyone in his shoes would feel discouraged after coming into a new forum making a genuine attempt at honest discussion, only to be greeted like this. Do as you will, of course. Just MHO.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

I agree, Catholic_Lady. It's not as if the OP is a raving lunatic and deserves to be made fun of. They seem like a decent person. They might be wrong but they aren't being overly aggressive or rude.

If for whatever reason there was a shortage of women, would it be morally permissible to have multiple husbands? Hopefully the OP comes back.

You could ask Atlas if the OP doesn't come back. He is very knowledge in such matters (the Quran). And doesn't let the Hadith corrupt him.
