Why am I not a muslim?
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

So, I assume you believe that god is as that alegedly described by Muhamad, way back in the 600's, right? The god Allah, taking after the god El (from Isra-El :wink-wink: ), taking after Anu (from Mesopotamia)... is nothing more than the leader of the other-world. The spirit world. The world of the dead, to where the dead go..... to where the living long to communicate. Copying Captain Kirk and taking it a step further: What does god need with a prophet? Is god unable to provide his message to all of mankind? Is god unwilling to provide it to all of mankind, thus perpetuating religious conflict? Bah.... don't answer that... any answer will be fiction to account for previous fiction. Why do you settle for believing? Don't you want to know? really know! To have factual assurance that god is as described in ancient texts? Why do you rely on your emotional responses to provide a pillar for belief? Can you understand how exploitable your own mind is, when emotions are concerned? What do you know of human psychology? If you were to understand that neurons work in a very set pattern, do you suppose that your brain would then work in roughly the same set pattern? (altough certainly far more complex) If the brain works in a particular way, and all human brains work similarly, can you see that any belief or disbelief is mainly a product of your exposure to the society around you? With a bit of it attributable to your own brain's peculiarities... If your own religious belief is a mainly product of society, then how did it start? Going back to the first paragraph, can you understand your religion as an evolution of pre-existing religions? your Allah concept, as an evolution of pre-existing god concepts, a refinement, but one caused by human minds. How did that start? No one knows... writing hadn't been invented yet. The earliest known cult of the dead dates from 30,000 years ago. The earliest writings date from 5,000 years ago. The earliest homo-sapiens skulls date from roughly 100,000 years ago. For over 50,000 years, there were no cults... people with brains similar to our own, inquisitive, ingenious, clever, curious, smart, observed the world around them and tried to make sense of it. Observed their dying elders and loved ones, and couldn't understand it... where did that kind, loving, knowledgable person go to? "Where".... The other world, the world of the dead.. Accessible to a few select people who could unlock the doorway between worlds - either in dreams, or in trance.... some could even do it with ease... How would those people interpret mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, natural visual and auditory hallucinations, bipolar, or even autism disorders? Special people were seemingly given access to the other world. Special people would take advantage of that. Elders would notice how people reacted to those things. Can you see that you are believing in something that is borne out of human ignorance, and perpetuated by human emotion? In no step along the way was any god ever necessary, was any god's presence ever required. Like Hawking said: “It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the Universe going.” and poca says: it is not necesary to invoke god to light humand minds and set belief going. 
Were you raised Muslim or did you convert after achieving majority?

Ok, ok...I'll play nice. Serious questions for the Muslim:
-I know Muslims eschew pork as being haram, so...beef curry or lamb curry? -Is it worth the risk to have left-over curry for breakfast if you know you're going to be on the train for an hour? -I think the curry market is due for expansion. Should I invest in curried ice cream or curried breakfast cereal? -Since Muslims don't (typically) consume alcohol, which whiskey should be drunk with curry to incur the least amount of disfavor with Allah? -An otherwise sensible friend of mine won't have rice with his curry - he prefers noodles. Is he going to Jahannam? Thank you in advance for your responses. Boru
