Keep being strong, my friend.
I'm impressed how strong you guys are.
I can't even give up sugary drinks...
When I first started recovery, I couldn't keep my hands off the sweets, and getting clean right after Halloween just meant that I had ready access to all the candy I could want. It was disgusting how much of that shit I was eating. I didn't really put two and two together at first, but eventually I compared notes with other addicts in the program and found that we were all short-term sugar fiends, trying to get our dopamine spikes any way we could.
Now it's Mardi Gras season, and there's a fucking King Cake delivered to our office almost every day. I can hardly look at them now. Lent can't come soon enough for this atheist.
In fact, I'm so over the sugar and processed food thing that I went soft-core vegetarian about two weeks ago (i.e., eggs, dairy, and fish are still on the menu). Now my problem isn't drug use or binging and crashing on sugar: it's giving birth each damn morning. Even the dogs look alarmed after my second cup of coffee. They know.

I've had a few coke dreams in which I can taste it. I wake up feeling a bit unsettled for a minute or so.

Never knew of this thread, but about 2 years alcohol free. 6 when I initially decided to quit, had some bumps in the road. My first 6 months were absolute torture, and even more dreadful was not knowing what to do with myself half the time. Life's better now, don't get cravings really, and don't miss the life style I use to have.

Good, I hope. Been thinking about yall.
Since my kidneys got worse it's been incredibly easy to stay sober. Using anything close to speed would shut them down. I'm getting a permacath inserted tomorrow, starting dialysis on Friday. (For the record, my kidney disease is genetic and not related to drug use)

Transplant list? Signed up for Medicare?
Wishing you the best.

Transplant center can't even start the process to get me on the list until the Medicare kicks in in 90 days. Thanks for that info a while ago, btw.

Good luck Egg. Thinking of you.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

This might be a little needy baby/greedy baby but how did the cath procedure go?

Oh that went perfectly fine. They got me good and high and finished it in like 30 minutes. But my doc called right after and said my kidney function was so bad I needed to start dialysis immediately. Being in the hospital is the real shitty part, especially because I had to be admitted through the ER. Fuck the ER. They put me in a different hallway every once and a while for 12 hours before I finally got a room haha

That sucks. Glad it all came off well, though.
