Are you a worrier or a don't give a fuck type person.
February 21, 2017 at 12:21 am
Or are you somewhere inbetween.
Personally I'm a worrier. What I worry about has changed over the years but it's still there.
A lot of people I know do not give a fuck.
They will drink and drive, steal from work, fight, say fucked up stuff that gets them into fights, drive around with class A drugs.
I'm the kind of person who won't even give a friend a work discount if the rule is that only close family can get the discount. I once handed in £40 I found on the premisis of a shop because I didn't want to get accused of theft.
I'm not a total psycho with it, I commit the kind of crimes everyone who drive a car commits on a daily basis, things like that. A lot of it's due to the fact I have a daughter and a job I really like, so now would be a bad time to get a criminal record and get fired.
For me it's a question of, am I worrying too much and not taking enough time to relax and think about how really really good I have it in some aspects of my life.
Or do I have it really good in some aspects of my life because I worried about it obsessively and sorted, maintained and continued to maintain the issue to an acceptable standard.
Things like not being fat, avoiding a criminal record, avoiding drugs and alcohol and having a fairly good social existence, having a sort of acceptable financial existence (It's all relative)
Anyway, enough about me.....
Are you the kind of person who takes too much heroin and falls asleep instead of going to the job interview, or are you the kind of person who drives at 29 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour road and still gets to the job interview half an hour early, or somewhere inbetween?
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.

I used to be a very bad worrier --no, it would be more apt to say that I was very good at worrying, and did it a frightful amount of the time.
There are still moments where I become anxious about some upcoming event, but for the most part I now give rare, very selective fucks. Probably 95% of them come down to pure logistics: Can I get from point A to point B by X o'clock, and do what I need to do there before rushing off to point C for (X+1) o'clock? (Not surprisingly, I am more likely to be 20 minutes early than 1 minute late.)

A little of both, I tend to worry, but if it's out of my control I just tell myself to let it go, nothing you can do.
I tend to over think things, and try not to give a fuck about other things.

It's situational.
I don't take drugs, even medicinal ones if I don't really have to. I don.t drink and drive but I hate being late and will always be half an hour early if I can.
Saying that I do speed too much. And I did get a speeding ticket over Cheistmas

I worry about people I love. I don't worry about people I don't love. I try not to worry about situations I cannot control, and I strive for serene acceptance in those cases.

This is a tricky one for me. For the things within my power to control, I tend not to worry, because I keep reasonable control of them if that makes sense - there was a time in my life where I felt a complete lack of control over my own life and it's resulted in me verging on being a bit anal now. For stuff outside my control, I try and assess the impact, and mitigate where possible, but tend not to worry too much. My husband suffers from anxiety and depression so it often falls to me to be 'the positive' one.
The only thing that does stress me out are certain social situations, I'm a bit socially awkward and can get very uncomfortable in social situations if not with people that I know really well. I have to really push myself to go to things, and worry about them a lot in advance, then worry about people judging me afterwards, because I'm very quiet and know I can come across as standoffish.

I tend to give a fuck about those things regarding which a fuck needs to be given, other things not so much. The standard I use to determine the 'give a fuck' level of various things and situations is completely arbitrary and likely to change without notice.

I owned an insurance brokerage so my job was worrying about everything that could go wrong. Because I took my job as an adviser on the subject of risk very seriously I have no doubt that it has made me much more of a worrier. There is a quote dealing with worry that says “It is not our goal to see what lies dimly in the distance but to do what clearly lies at hand.” That's great, except that it was my job to specifically consider what risks may dimly lie ahead.
Even now that I've sold the business and retired, I can't help but look at most situations from the point of view of what could go wrong. It's difficult to get out of a mind set I spent years honing.
I've found a trick recently that has helped me with the worrying. I came across the expression "live in day tight compartments" coined by Sir William Ossler. So now, I actively focus on the days business. I don't ignore the future but I try to keep it in perspective.

I tend to be a worrier. I look ahead and think long term about things and am always analyzing how my decisions now will effect life down the line. I've always been like that since I was a teenager.
It's a good quality when it makes me really think about the consequences of my choices, but a bad thing when a tragedy happens and I have a really hard time taking things "one day at a time."
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

It's mostly situational. I worry a bit too much about people I hold dear to the point of being overly protective. I am a "don't give a fuck" type of guy in situations where the consequences would only affect me but if the consequences can extend and affect someone I love then I will just throw my ego out the window and walk away.
