However, when someone creates the slogan that "Black Lives Matter", it seems to me those making the statement think only black lives matter.
To make a relatively simple comparison:
Those who state "God bless America" think God only blesses America, when in fact wouldn't God bless the world?
Therefore, it is not just that black lives matter. In fact, all lives matter.
When someone at the table hasn't gotten the food they were supposed to get and complains that they should get their fair share, the person who's response is 'Everybody should get their fair share' is being clueless, at best.

Not to mention the slogan was a fucking hashtag on Twitter that unexpectedly blew up. There was no changing it after the right (without even the slightest hint of irony) attempted to undercut and delegitimize the movement by being willfully ignorant about its meaning.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Oh they knew what it meant..they just didn't agree.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

That is NOT why supporters of BLM say that, whites also support BLM.
If you don't understand why the term is used, that is your baggage, not theirs not their supporters either.
It is not saying only black lives matter, if you think that that is simply ignorant.
It has to do with the economic inequity and the treatment of law and courts and in that context blacks on average are not being treated equally.
You are desensitized to or ignorant of real problems that do exist.
This is the same ignorance used against LGBT about "Gay pride" events.
It isn't about saying others don't matter, it is about minorities standing up for themselves.

Some people say that saying "all lives matter" is just ignoring the problem. I think they have a point, but I have the same opinion of the phrase "black lives matter." If black lives really mattered, the justice system would care about that, wouldn't they? Isn't that the whole reason for the movement's existence in the first place?
Here's Ice-T taking on this issue as well As anyone else I can remember:

Division makes for a much stronger political platform. Make people feel as if they have something to point out and stand for and they are more apt to play follow the leader.
“You could do better, but you’re being held down by the man (or A man for the woman’s rights stuff). Follow me and I’ll give you more rights and government subsidies that you need until we get there. You just hold that dependence on me and my political party. We’ll get there together. Also, please donate to my campaign so I can better help you get there.” Or any similar narrative is what I hear when they scream that BS.
I would love to see a white lives matter group or an Asian lives matter group would be cool. Maybe an Indian lives matter group would be entertaining too. Eliminate the division and lump them with other groups and people would lose their freaken minds. I’d show up to a rally to watch that brawl play out.

The BLM movement arose because of a number of shootings of unarmed black people. Clearly they meant that "Black lives matter... Also"
Given the origin of the movement, hearing "Only... Black lives matter" is just incorrect. But, I think it speaks to more than just being mistaken. There is a lack of empathy on display by those who reply to BLM with "All lives matter"
If god was real he wouldn't need middle men to explain his wants or do his bidding.
