Am I the only one?
#31
RE: Am I the only one?
I am now officially too old for some clothes.
I was in TK Max a while ago and there was this military style overcoat but sort of 17th century military, short at the front long at the back with the fancy buttoning system on the front and made with a sort of shiny fabric, as styled by Mr Darcy in Pride and prejudice. I put it on and my wife went "MMM that would have looked fantastic on you 20 years ago"

I hung it back up, feeling like the oldest man in the world.

RE: Am I the only one?
I caught onto adult things later in life, probably because I was too sheltered from responsibility by my parents.

At 32 I’ve ticked most of the boxes of adulthood I think exist.
I have a full time job, a child, a car, my last challenge is to move out of my parents place but that might be a challenge that can wait, I’m saving up money fast for what could be a house deposit.
I’m at my most adult like when I’m driving around doing things related to all the responsbilities I’ve got, at my most childish when I’m in my parents attic playing computer games.
People say I look young for my age and my body still looks good, I can still demolish donuts and kfc at the weekend and burn it at the gym mid week.
Right now I’m lucky because I hardly ever don’t want to be in work, most of my time in work is spent joking childishly.

I'm much older than you, Losty. I'll be 37 in about 7 weeks. Due to some pretty severe issues I'm way behind most people my age in life in almost every way.

RE: Am I the only one?
I'm 29 but same here. My youngest sibling, my 16 year old brother, is more head in life than me. As are all my younger siblings.

You're not much older than Losty. Less than a decade isn't much.

Hell my parents were a decade apart. I never felt like their age meant any more than like 2 or 3 years really.

It's a bigger difference the further back you go. A 9 year difference when you're 19 and the other person is 10 means a lot. But 9 years will be nothing when you're 89 and the other person is 80.

I do the adult stuff like work forty hrs a week and pay my goddamned bills, but I take the time to keep the boy alive. Compartmentalization is not just for theists; there's nothing wrong with setting aside time for the silly things that keep you young (that reminds me, I'm overdue for some roller-coasterin').

On the flipside, one of the things I love about growing older is that experience has equipped me little by little with the ability to see the rough stuff in perspective so that it doesn't knock me back too hard. That same experience also allows me to find the silver linings even when they're well-hidden.

I'm finding growing older more fun than I thought it would be, largely because staying young ain't as hard as I thought it would be. Go figure.

I am 51. Mentally I will always act like a 5 year old because DAMN IT, I hate being serious all the time. But physically, add about 4 extinction events to how old  I feel. My body feels like wants to go to the doctor and complain about how the microwave background radiation is making my joints stiff.

I was 63 years old a couple of weeks ago, no idea where the years went. I still feel 24 in my head, maybe I will start to act my age when I turn 70 (but I doubt it!)
My weight was about 125 pounds until I got married then it started to creep up (maybe because I was eating better) but once past age 50 it shot up and now the image of my feet is just a memory (something gets in the way).
My nick started as a joke because I was so thin... now it's reality!  Smile

Snap out of this childish behaviour at once!.

I feel the same way about the microwave background radiation btw which is why I never use a microwave.

Yes, you are the only one. Now stop it.

Wait until you're in your mid-50's.  Inside, you still feel - oh, 20-something.  But then you walk past a mirror, and there is often this "wtf happened?" reaction.     Tongue     Undecided
