Jesus celebrated His Sabbath from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday. I've seen many twisted and pathetic explanations why modern era Christians can be patently unChristlike in their observance of their Sabbath, but I'd be damned if I said I could follow their 'reasoning'.

It may matter to some people what day is to be kept holy.

The Catholic church is quite upfront about its standing on this issue - it claims that the church or pope has the God given authority to make or change the rules, and it does not say that the Sabbath of the Bible is Sunday.

So what is a Sabbath then (I've always been completely nonreligious so I'm not familiar with any of this, to me it seems kind of arbitrary). Wouldn't you want to keep every day holy if it makes a difference? I personally think it's pretty obvious that days of the week are set by humans to be a convenient cycle, and I've never considered them special or observed any difference between them that hasn't been invented by humans. 

The definition of the Sabbath is given in the first two chapters of the Bible, (the KJV is an authentic version).

I am not here to discuss SDA's, because it's not that difficult to read the entire KJV Bible, but I just mentioned my background, in case anyone needed to know what influences my comments. Of course, if you want to start a thread specifically on SDA's, I'll comment if I see any gaps.

I am interested in some of the difficult areas of atheist thinking, and what causes people to remain true to certain ideas, and in communicating with others I hope to understand where they are coming from, to identify with them.

I know a lot of seventh dayers, like...a quarter of my family.
I don’t know if it’s a seventh day thing or just my family but there’s always really strange foods at their events. Like one Christmas my great grandma made beetroot jello. It was awful.

I was raised in the Seventh Day Adventist church, and although I am not worthy to be called one, I cannot deny what I have learned from their resources. 

I am familiar with all of their doctrines, and I would like to say that they are unique to the rest of Christendom, despite the amalgamation of many of their sectors into common religions.

I'm not familiar with your religion so I'm curious, what's the difference between Seventh Day Adventists and other Christian sects, aside from the day of the week that you choose to meet?

Also, why does it matter what day you meet on in the first place?

No one is familiar with it, well apart from the likes of us that is. It's a marketing term. There was and still is money to be made. Follow the money!

But the carpetbaggers spotted an angle, there was money to be made. They needed a new sales pitch. They needed an original (Sounding) name.

Look at the telly adverts: Muscular pain, joint pain, period pain, wasp stings premature ejaculation, buck teeth, club foot? They have the answer. And guess what, they all contain paracetamol. And guess what. Religion is selling you the the exact same thing. Religion is selling you something you probably don't need and most certainly does not work.

Hi, this is my second day on this forum. A brief intro about myself:

Between the ages 8 and 13, my parents used to force me to go to church and Sunday school that was conducted in a language that isn't even my first language. I absolutely hated this and this is probably responsible for me being on this forum now. 

At the age of 14, I stopped going to church but still referred to myself as a Christian until I read The God Delusion at age 19. After that I started calling myself an atheist and was later radicalized by reading and listening to Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris.
