Wal Mart increases starting wage

RE: Wal Mart increases starting wage
Did they do this because of the tax cuts or were they planning this for awhile now? It doesn't seem like the tax cuts were talked about for that long before they were passed.

I see guys I know work at Wal-mart waiting for the bus in all weather. They won't turn down $1,000.

Don't wholly buy into the layoff talk.  Companies are constantly reorganizing.  Especially these giant corporations with 100,000's of employees.   A company laying off 500 in one area doesn't mean the company is shedding jobs.  They could be hiring 1000 more in different departments or different locations, but the headline of 'lays off 500' is still true.

It's one of those things where the news presents some information, and lets the readers/viewers draw lousy conclusions.

$11 minimum hourly rate is a joke, and not much of a jump from $10.

It's $2,000 a year for a full-time worker.

Yeah, but if you worked there for 280 years, that 2,000 dollars spread out would only be 12 cents every 3 weeks.  So it's actually costing the employees money.

Hey nazi, nice straw man you're building there. Why not, like the rest of us, work your figures off real world examples?

Oh yeah, that's right nazi, it's because real world examples fuck your worldview up the arse good and hard.

Edit: And "alpha" male's heroes come crashing down to earth with a big bang. Walmart is laying off thousands of employees. What's the odds the rest of their staff are right now being told that their "pay increase" is conditional on masses of unpaid overtime, otherwise they too will be found surplus to company requirements?

A worker at a local Walmart here in Arizona will net $30 per week thanks to this generous raise assuming a 40 hour week.  Don't spend it all in one place.

That's $1,500 per year. You think that won't help such people because...?

Here's what I like about you Wololo, you're so spectacularly absurd, that the first time I remember interacting with you, I thought you were doing a bit.  That you were playing a caricature of a stereotypical dumb person with no self-awareness, and I laughed at your joke, because I thought the portrayal was dynamite.  Then after a few posts I realized that it wasn't an act at all.  You were just being you, and I got an even bigger laugh at that.  You brought my cold nazi heart a lot of joy.

And even today, I still have the nagging doubts in the back of my mind if you are not just doing a bit, because it's so fucking silly.  The imagery I have of you typing away at the computer calling people nazi's puts a huge smile on my face.  You are everything that is right about everything wrong with the internet.

Anyhoo, I wasn't making a logical argument, it was just mockery.  Mocking the idea that someone takes a very simple number, $1000, and does a bunch of unnecessary math to present it in a way that makes it seem like less than $1000.  It's so silly, I find it funny.  Not as funny as you, but still funny.
