What about the Democratic platform was unappealing?

There's a reason Democrats and Republicans are right next to each other on the spectrum of political philosophy. The party is in desperate need of a rehaul based on the successes of Sanders' platforms ability to resonate with people.

It's far too moderate.

His insatiable narcissism and need to control everything is what is keeping him going. He'll run again in 2020 because he loves being the center of attention and holding the highest seat in this country is garnering him LOTS of attention.

He spoke twice (including in 2016) in favor of School choice (which is a nice way of saying making way for for-profit schools to take government funding from public schools) at the American Federation for Children -- which is a conservative group that advocates privatizing schools and dismantling the public school system.  He worked with Chris Christie in New Jersey on this very thing.

As a teacher, as a parent, and even as a citizen, I put public education as my top priority when it comes to voting.  Supporting Public Education is part of my litmus test.  I can forgive many things--Hillary being a wall street sell out for starters.  But not supporting public education is the issue where I draw the line.   I can't support someone who doesn't support public schools.  Cory Booker hasn't, and still doesn't.  I hope he doesn't get the nomination.  I hope someone better than him does.

I agree with your priorities but I think you underestimate how strongly the religious want to shelter their indoctrinates children from the secularizing influence of unfiltered information.  My first impulse is fuck them.  But politically, given the number of religiously dumb people there are in the country, that may not be a viable alternative.  As a result you have people wishing to win elections speaking up for charter schools.  While I'd like to avoid the divisiveness and creaming that comes with charters, maybe we have to cut the religious loose in order to save civilization.

They can educate their children at home, with luke and mark.  Their tax dollars will still go to providing an actual education in public schools. If they want their kids to read good and do other things, they can send their kids to a real school.

There we go, "school choice" - as in, assholes can choose not to educate their children if they want to..and they desperately want to.

I'd sure prefer that than subsidizing some xtian infused compromise out of the public coffers.

Our government has no business handing creationism money.  It doesn't matter who believes in it or how strongly they believe.   It wouldn't even matter if it were true.

I should have used emphasis in my post to indicate who I was talking about. Sadly, I assumed people already knew.

Emphasis mine.

I am referring to this idiot, in case it wasn't obviously clear to the masses.
