And yes, I said it wasn't natural selection.
However, farmers habitually save seeds for the next year's crop, saving the best when they can. A hundred years of that would be a hundred years of improvement.

They cultivated it to eat it. It's not corn.,.at least not as we know corn, but it's yield is impressive for a wild cultivar. Ultimately, they may have ate it because there was tons of the shit lying around. It was also, as a bonus, amenable to their methodology and tools. We suppose the one informed the other but it may have been a two way relationship.
