What do you think of Wicca?

RE: What do you think of Wicca?
It's as silly as any other religion.

It's nowhere near as harmful as the Abrahamic religions because we don't have such huge numbers of adherents clamoring for, "Death of the infidels."

Religion is not inherently evil. The problem is when religion corrupts a significant percentage of the population so as to cause them to act in such an irrational way that they move society in a detrimental direction.

I have as much intellectual contempt for those who believe Wicca is real as I do for those dozens of Americans who wrote angry letters to the US Coast Guard and even their congressmen in the 1960s who demanded that the castaways on Gilligan's Island be rescued. I'm not kidding! Look it up!

It is important to chose your battles. Your resources are limited so it is important that you only expend them against those opponents who pose a genuine threat.

The idiots in the USA who take Donald Trump seriously are a legitimate threat to humanity so we need to expend our resources against these idiots. Idiots who think Gilligan is still trying to chose between Ginger and Maryann (Maryanne, obviously) are not worth any treasure.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

I have an old friend who dabbled in Wiccan stuff for a bit but I don't think she got too deep into it so I couldn't tell you much about Wiccan beliefs. I'm sure that here in northern California we have more than our fair share of Wiccans.

There's nothing wrong with being curious about religions or supernatural beliefs as long as you're willing to continually ask intellectually honest questions. Question, question, question. Even things that you're certain must be true. Especially question those things.

I've been reading about it, and not interested in following it but, it could be one of those ''religions'' that I have misunderstood in my mind. I like the spells.

Do you know any Wiccans? I had a friend a few years ago who followed it, but we drifted apart. She was pretty grounded in her life, she wasn't stirring boiling cauldrons with eyes of newts, or anything. I've always been interested in learning about others' beliefs.

Ask a more specific question for your witch.  Wink

Yes...I know wiccans..what of it?

Since I rate religionists on the sole criterion of how likely they are to pester me by coming to my home uninvited and offering to tell me their own version of 'the good news', Wiccans rank pretty high.

When I was a teenager I knew a few other teenagers who said they were wiccan.  It seemed to just be an extension of that type of teenage lifestyle, especially among females.  Listen to rock music, dye your hair, wear colourful bracelets, tell people you're Wiccan.

Beyond that I don't know much about it.  I think people join the religion because of the image surrounding it.

And I don't know in detail about what their rituals include but it seems to me that a lot of what they do might enjoyable to some people regardless of spirituality or religion.  Their rituals seem to be outdoors quite a lot, and it does feel good to get out of the house and go for a walk in the woods, I do that anyway when I'm not in work.  I guess some people might enjoy the hand holding and chanting while everyones dressed like either teenagers in a rock band or someone from Braveheart.  I wouldn't enjoy that though, I'm too self conscious.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

I like the part where young girls dance in the forest at night with their boobs out.

Here, we call that 'Saturday'. Nothing to do with Wicca.
