The men were so manly . . .

What kind of men do they have for commercials now?  Fems?

Certainly not the Marlboro Man. You're probably too young to remember that Wink

In 10 or 20 years don't expect that to stay the same. In the early days of cable, they marketed "commercial free" too. I can remember when MTV was music television.

And even on line, it isn't the adds that bother me, but the repetition. The worst part isn't online waiting for an add to end to get to the content, for me, but when the add pops up in the middle as a bug. I hate college football and NHL for that reason, because the adds are on the field or under the ice.

Think about it, who wants to go to blockbuster movie only to see a "Coke" bug dominating the corner of the screen the entire time.

Television ads don't really bother me. It's a nice break where I can stop paying attention for a few minutes.

What drives me nuts is videos on web pages that play on loading the page. They always take a while to buffer, and so you have to sit and wait before you can pause or mute them.

Television programming is mostly shit, and has been for decades...[one liner, laugh track, repeat ad infinitum, ad nauseum]. I watch maybe an hour a week, just by walking through the room, while my wife is watching...which is almost all day long. I didn't even have a TV when I got married. My wife got an old black and white set from her dad's attic (they saved everything) after we got married. Rolleyes

As a result, the ads have no effect.

Don’t watch the idiot box, so I haven’t seen a TV ad for years.

But the one that I remember and hated with a passion was MacNasties “I’m loving it!”

Die, advertising scum!

Playing Cluedo with my mum while I was at Uni:

"You did WHAT?  With WHO?  WHERE???"

Thanks. Now I just need something for Chrome. I'm probably shit outta luck with Opera, which I'm using for fantasy football, and NFL.com is notorious for that. *sigh*

Nothing's perfect I guess.

Woohoo! "I have the power!"

Now I can use CNN and NFL.com without those annoying autoload videos in all three browsers!

Commercials that make the men in them look stupid. For example, there’s one recently where the couple in the commercial is buying something and every idea the husband has, the wife snaps her fingers to silence him and then he walks away sheepishly. Dumbing either gender down isn’t necessary to sell your product.
