Criticism

RE: Criticism
The number of friends I've had has definitely grown and shrank through my life.

I'm at a stage now where all my friends are pretty much work friends, but I've managed to socialize a fair amount outside of work with them.

Criticism covers a broad range of possibilities and it depends who's giving it and what they're giving it on as to how sensitive I am about it.

In general I don't think I get over emotional or obsessed about it.

I've had experience in my life with really critical people, I suppose that's where having friends is helpful in dealing with very critical people.  Because with friends you aren't just relying on one person's judgment and you can run the criticism one person has made about you past some other people who hopefully have some powers of logic and are also honest.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

As in Dungeons & Dragons type games. You assume the role of a character, have stats written down on a character sheet, with a back story. The games master leads the game by describing the scene etc. You then tell them what you want to do, referring to your character sheet and rolling dice if necessary.

Well our DM just started a playtest of his campaign he has just finished writing. We're using the rolld20 app. We've had one session so far. I could ask him if there's any more space. It's the first time that we've all used the app. All you need is a web browser, mic headset and preferably a web cam (but not essential). The group is very friendly and fun and the style is very much role playing / story telling rather than hack and slash number crunching.

Not that there's anything wrong with that....

Not that anyone has ever told me as much, but I tend to be very critical, and not always constructively. Not sure what that says about me. All I know is I don't know how else to be.

Right... cool... that does sound fun. I never got into Dungeons and Dragons or similar choose your own adventure type books as a kid, but they have nonetheless always had a pleasant, almost mystical, appeal to me (probably cos I like stats Wink). Anyway is this an online thing, or a group thing in real life?

What time will the sessions start, generally? If live to him! My ability to do so well really friend in if it's at a time that works for me. And thank you very kindly for the invite. I would need to get a mic headset, but that's ready and the rest is no issue.

It's fortnightly Wednesday evening starting at 7pm British time, so that would be 8pm German time.

Ah, that time can't work for me. :Sad With my daughter starting school in 2 weeks, her bedtime is 8:30, and my husband and I got to bed by 10, usually after spending a little time together once the little girl is in bed.

That's one of the issues I suppose, for me.  Not only am I not trapped at home bored all day, I'm overly busy since being here.  I did a lot of daily traveling the first year we were here (around 3 to 4 hours of travel per day) but I think I will have a lot more free time this coming school year. However, my free time will be from like, 10am to 2pm.  Once my daughter is home from school, I generally spend time with her on homework and then games together until dinner.

Thanks for the offer, though.  Smile

Yes! I'm very free on weekends. I would love to join if a spot ever opens up then. Thanks!
