At the last concert of this season of Ravinia (well, the last one I planned to go to): Johnny Rivers and Jimmy Webb. It’ll be a bit less than two hours before either one shows up, but there’ll be a local jazz trio opening in about fifteen. I also got a t-shirt with “And I need you more than want you, And I want you for all time” from Wichita Lineman in Webb’s handwriting on the back for $20.

Thank Jah for the time delay function on my iPad camera.

Finished doing a color correction on my daughter's hair. If you're friends with me on facebook, you can see it there.

The Jimmy Webb part of the show is over (although reliable sources tell me he’ll return for the later part of Johnny Rivers’ set.)

He played six songs, “Highwayman”, “Wichita Lineman”, “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress”,” “Up Up And Away”, “All I Know,” and “MacArthur Park”.

I went back and bought a new edition of 5 Easy Pieces and came to the signing booth with a plan: I had an idea that, if A) I downloaded an artists work under less than royalty-ideal situations, and B) I met them in person, I’d pay them the royalties they deserved. [I shudder to imagine the money I’d owe Philip Glass in this situation] This is the first time I had the opportunity to put it into action. (for the record, the records in question are Archive and the original 10 Easy Pieces) I handed him a $10 and explained my plan to him, and he said he didn’t need it. I am apparently the first person to try this with him. He still signed the copy of 10 Easy Pieces I bought, and took some photos with me. Maybe I’ll share those pics when they register on my IPad’s Photostream.

Strange thing, he saw my notebook and asked if I wrote songs. I told him I played guitar and wrote stories, but just couldn’t put the two together.

Also, apparently, tomorrow on StarTalk, there will be a video of new photos from outer space paired with Harvey Fierstein’s cover of “Up Up and Away.”

(Edit: He performed "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" with Johnny as a duet, and he joined him in the encore for rendition of "One Love" (with interpolations from "Will the Circle Be Unbroken")

Watching Canelo-GGG 2 and trying to give away a couch on FB.

Literally hundreds of people are blowing me up on Messenger about this ghetto ass couch.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Got up early because a furnace service guy was coming by to do seasonal maintenance. Sat in the dining room, drank tea, and read till he was done, then went back to bed for another five hours.

Did some more demolition in my study. Only two more sections of wall to do, and all the old plaster and lath will be gone.

Went out in the early evening to pick up a new bar for the bathtub shower curtain. The old bar was a two-piece spring-loaded bar that fell for the third and final time yesterday, despite being reinforced with adhesive caulk. Am changing to a one-piece bar with screw-in mounting brackets at both ends, even though that means painstakingly drilling four holes in the ceramic tile with a specialized drill bit.

Went to an Arabic street food place for coffee and a snack, and had a flatbread with zaatar. Liked it enough to think about buying some zaatar to use at home, but then realized that I probably already have all the spices. (Recipe search proved me correct -- I have everything I need, and now have a printed recipe for the spice mix.)

(Oh, and I made some toffee too. I had some heavy cream in the fridge that needed to be used up. Omnomnomnom!)

Nothing much. Looking forward to a good day of football. Vikings and Packers, Jags and Pats, and then the Giants and Cowboys tonight.

Brewing my first pot of coffee in a long time. I considered getting a Keurig K40 this morning, but am nonplussed at the variety of coffees available for it. I think I'll buy a new grinder and buy whole bean.

Yesterday I was in the vicinity of my favorite tea shop, so I picked up some blue beauty oolong. I need to get my electric hot water pot out of storage and see if it still works.

Discovering more fun uses for my Chromecast. I like my Roku a lot, but the addition of a Chromecast is just a knock-out punch. I have the streaming Apps & Plex on my Roku, and can cast all sorts of things from my PC to my Chromecast.

Bummer. Hope things look up for you soon.

...

Did the Susan G Komen race this morning (I'll post a pic tomorrow), bought some snails for my aquarium (named Gary/Mary, Julian/Julianne and Louis/Louise - they're hermaphrodites) and plowed through the bins at Goodwill looking for stuff I could turn into aquarium tools.

Now I'm finishing dinner and about to test my aquarium parameters.
