A question about genetics

In this movie, a motorcycle rider in a race across Baja, California is unwittingly sent back through time where he fathers his own ancestors. Cool idea but it's a speculative exercise. If you're looking for a justification for a sci-fi story, sure, it's great. Not useful as real-world science, however.
