The Convoy

RE: The Convoy
Actually Roosevelt was speaking of the establishment of the 442d Infantry Regiment which was made up of Japanese-American volunteers.  They amassed quite a combat record in Italy.

And he was trying, against the established norm, to make things better. Unlike the current resident of the White House.

Yo, Min! Did you hear the NRA is in financial trouble? (Left here because I'm too lazy to find/start another thread for it.)

Seriously?

I'm looking forward to following this story.

Something to do with insurance policies that were dicey. Didn't dive in too deep.

Found this about that:

https://www.thetrace.org/rounds/nra-carr...ew-jersey/

In a nutshell, the NRA are selling what they call 'Carry Guard Insurance'.  If you have a permit to carry a concealed firearm and you shoot someone and claim self defense,  the policy will cover some or all of your legal bills.  This, essentially, is murder insurance, and some states are investigating as to whether or not it violates laws against insuring deliberate harm.  The thinking is that it might make people more likely to shoot someone, knowing that their legal fees will be handled.

Be interesting to see how this plays out.

I'm sure he was.

I think the 120,000 Japanese he had stripped of their property and interred had a different opinion.

I worked with a guy who was of Japanese ancestory. His family was stripped of their property ( never returned) and they were interred.

He turned 18 in the camp and joined the army.

His  opinion - "FDR was at best a racist apologist".

FDR

The man was a racist, an anti-semite, and a white supremacist - all of which is to say..a completely normal product of society for the time and place. The new deal contained explicitly racist and white supremacist provisions and exemptions. The immigration reforms of his admin closely parallel trumpian policies. With full knowledge of the holocaust, fdr maintained ties with hitler and blocked the immigration of jews attempting to escape and intended to "spread them thinly all over the world" at the end. He excluded black olympians from the whitehouse, and interred americans (indefinitely) in contradiction to a report from his admins intelligence which determined that there was no particular reason to suspect deficiencies in japanese american loyalty due to their ethnicity.

All that said, FDR is a progressive icon for what he got right, even those things he got right accidentally or in contradiction to his privately held beliefs.....not what he got wrong, lol.
