PSA: Hate Speech

Outta, I don’t think you understand the rule. You can still call people thin-skinned bitches. This is specifically about hate speech because the line was being toed and crossed repeatedly, so we were forced to respond.

I really, REALLY think this is why this topic has gone on so long - people either didn't read the PSA, or they didn't understand it and read something into it that wasn't there.

That's the kind of thing that I have a problem with. Characterizing people with issues as "thin-skinned bitches", mischaracterizing those issues, and being irascible when you hit something that is awkward when it was the staff that created the awkwardness.

I read the PSA. I read all 20+ pages. The further I read the muddier the water became. Hate-speech comes in all kinds of forms and language. I once called my bitchster-in-law a "soul-sucking succubus bitch" to her face. I certainly meant it as hate speech. She's a waste of perfectly good skin. But none of those specific words seem to be banned here. Intent. Content. Two different things.

Again, I didn't read the thread(s) that led to this decision/PSA. Perhaps that would have made the water more clear. Perhaps that would have made the need for the edict more evident. Or made some of the obvious anger make more sense.

I think everybody needs to take a really deep breath. And anybody not wearing pink (it is Wednesday you know) needs to get off the playground.

Why is it that you guys don’t apply these same objections to other rules of the forum? What about trolling? Maybe we should stop policing that. Maybe we should stop policing flaming. Maybe it’s not fair that we censor trolls and flamers. I mean, free speech, amma’ right? Who are we to deny them their freedom to register here and say what whatever they want for any old reason?
