I knew that the Y-donor would never pay for me going to college, so I went with the "Industrial Arts" curriculum. (Prep you for being an assembly line worker. ( )) I had more fun than the guys in Latin class.

was a diesel/refrigeration mechanic for almost 15 years.. the worst I had was trying to roll on a 20ft fan belt I snaked it all through the system and got to the crank and it would not go on. rather than take a proper screwdriver and pop it on I took a short pry bar/lady finger and bumped the engine over. did not even make one revolution with the starter... just bumped the starter and it grabbed the lady finger pry bar which pulled my thumb into the pulley wiped it around and the lady finger pry bar and my thumb came back at my face along with the rest of my hand and hit me in the eye so hard it staggered me. I immediately grabbed my thumb cause I though it was cut off/partially anyway. and slowly open my hand an it was throbbing blood but it was all there! got a paper towel taped it up super tight finished everything I was supposed to do there and like an hour later opened it all back up and super glued the wound shut. then light bandage. there is less of a scare there than any place I have ever received stitches.

I was sitting on the shaft of #2 Main Engine on board USS Peleliu, cleaning out the oil sump as part of replacing the spring bearing. Similar to the pix below. We were making turns for 24 knots on the other shaft to keep up with the squadron of gators.

As I was working the pin holding the shaft motionless broke and the 16'9" #2 propellor being dragged the water by the other shaft went free. It flipped me into the bulkhead about six feet away and knocked me unconscious for ~18 hours. They nearly helo'd me off the ship, but I woke up enough to give them my name and SSN, so they figured I'd recover. Eventually.

Pretty much. I started up a Ship's Service Turbo-generator while a striker was holding a trash bag for me to puke into. I went to sick bay AFTER I made sure the lights were going to stay on.

I have owned old trucks - '62 Chevy S-10, '60 Dodge, '64 Ford. I certainly have busted some knuckles. Changing the subject a bit- I was seventeen and working at a pizza joint that had a brick pizza oven. Temp was 500 degrees. When it was busy we would have to put some of the pizzas about arm length deep in the oven. If you happened to accidentally touch the top or bottom of oven (it was about 10 -12 inches from top to bottom) Your hand would jerk in the opposite direction. So, by the time you pulled your arm out your hand would have multiple burns. I held the record at 5. This is about burned knuckles.

Possibly! Probably why most corporate restaurants drug test their employees. It was the '70s.
