I guess you put the stopping point on genetic chance where you see fit. Given that you sayed that all pedophiles should be killed, that includes the ones that want to seek help and don't want to harm anyone, and because of that they are innocent, they didn't choose the attraction that they have, but in a world governed by your way of solving the problem I wonder how many will stop being innocent? (this is not empathy BTW, I just Don t use a lens of hocu pocus to see the world.)

If you would have read the first post you would have known why, primarily because I don't think focusing just on punishment helps solve the problem. Just someone not agreeing to killing people just because they were born.

What makes you think I didn't read the first post? Rehabilitation simply is not wanted by some. Rehabilitation does not work for everyone. Your idealistic thinking is cute and all, but at the end of the day, some people are just bad. Period. We can try to categorize it and normalize it and do all of these things that make us feel nice and warm inside... call it a disease and put it in the DSM. That'll do. And hey, maybe it's a disease. Who knows? Who cares. Some people are just shitty people.

To me, you don't belong here if that's what you think about children. End of story. To me, we should not let those people live among us. If you want to feel sorry for people like that, suit yourself. Maybe you'd find yourself on the wrong end of history one day. Or maybe, as sanctimoniously hypocritical and morally "superior" our society is becoming, maybe I'll be considered barbaric. I live a good life and take care of those around me. I could not care less that some asshole on the internet wants to baby the poor little pedophiles. For some reason, I feel like we have more important to things to worry about as a society anyway. Like making sure that people who abuse kids get more than a slap on the wrist. Advances in modern medicine and science. So on and so forth.

Except that this is a topic about prevention, if you don't feel comfortable about addressing the issue you shouldn't have engaged in it. I didn't say the we shouldn't punish abuse, I sayed that we shouldn't focus just on that. Whatever the crime, the discussion shouldn't end after we established a punishment.

Some may argue that we need to punish pedophiles because, after all, raping, molesting, and taking advantage of children is horrible. To this I can only respond:





Yeah, if someone takes pleasure in abusing children, the only mercy they should be shown is a quicker, more painless death.

Unlike a lot of people, however, I have reason to believe that this isn't just some sick fucks getting their jollies by hurting children, but part of a mental disorder (and I should stress that the APA and WHO both agree with me on this point, see DSM-V code 302.2 and ICD-10 code F65.4 for more information). Some people with this disorder are just shameless abusers who don't deserve much better than a bullet in the brain, but some are also suffering in silence because they have these feelings and DO NOT WANT TO FEEL THEM. As mentioned before, I have no fucking idea how big either camp is, but I do know that if we don't help the latter (or at the very least, see what can actually be done to help them), literally all we're doing is just putting a band-aid over the problem, and when it comes to potential long-term solutions, the debate just starts to sound like this:





You could argue that we just need to punish them harder, but given that A) harsher penalties for crimes didn't work as deterrents when England had literally HUNDREDS of crimes punishable by death, up to and including stealing a shilling, B) the way we punish them (which tends to involve sticking them with other people just like them for their own safety, thus reinforcing their warped system of morality) is fundamentally counter-productive, C) prisons already have a justified reputation for being a finishing school for criminals anyway, and D) a lot of those crimes didn't have an underlying mental disorder, I don't really have much hope that just doing that will work.

I think I'm clashing with a lot of you guys here on punishment because I'm a ferm believer in rehabilitation, like I mentioned before, for me punishing is necessary just for preventing future offenders from offending again, when we don't have any other options. Assigning blame just doesn't cut it, every victim of violent offense is a failure of society in my view.

It would help to point out that I'm analysing crim from a deterministic lense, so I'm not taking into account freedom of choice and thing related to that.

Probably not, but you can still use it to isolate individuals that have a high chance of offending again. The main focus should be on prevention, although given the taboo around the subject, scientists don't really get to study what will work best.
