It was a play on equipment and groundpounders.
We carry uncarry-able things. Those three things only weighed 130lbs....except for what they did and meant to those that carried them. A machine gun and a paramedics bag.
Death and morphine.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Nah, I'm pretty sure you didn't carry uncarry-able things. Not meant to be carried? Sure. Difficult to carry? I have no doubt.
But not uncarry-able.

I'd trade your dreams for mine, every day, twice on sunday.
The real value of service and servicemembers..is what they do that the rest don't have to. You put down your braided cord, and your uniform....and you drag that with you for the rest of your life.

I wanted to fly a super stallion, the ones with arthur in the belly, or..failing that, a kiowa.
I got to rock-and-roll with Arnold one time on a run to the Big PX. I could see why he picked it. At one point we pulled up near a ville and the pilot kinda stood her on her tail. Thousands of empties rolled out. The locals made pots and pans out of that.

In my short couple years as a soldier I was never in danger but was in a support role training for the possibility of needing to keep a combat communications center operational. That training was my first experience with anything computer-y. I met great people, learned a lot about a lot of different things, challenged myself mentally and physically, and am glad I played a small part.
Forget Trump for a minute and say thank you to a veteran. Chances are if you aren't one someone in you life was or is.
No. Soldiers agree to be a dictator's henchmen, just like a gang with massive resources. When that president/government -that owns the army too- decides to beat the shit out of somebody -and call it foreign policy- their soldiers -sorry; his "henchmen"- jump in out of nowhere like idiots to form a human shield around its ass butchering and blowing any person who comes close to the leader. In blind almost crazy loyalty.
It was proven during the time of "Bush the son" that blind loyalty led many American soldiers to die without a cause like waste, for a lie called the WMDs. Other examples are numerous.
So do you blindly thank the older generation to contribute to a president's/government's mad commands?

We had the right to refuse illegal orders. I would not have served in a military that didn't have that right.
You benchsitters need to learn more about what you're bullshitting about.

Trouble is, the people who send you off to deal with unfriendly foreigners are also the people who decide what constitutes a 'legal' order.

In any group of people there will be those who are good and honorable, those who aren't, and those who ride the fence between.
It's not a black or white issue as many seem to think. Active duty, veterans, and those gone are a cross section of the population.
Not everyone in military service follows every order blindly.
