A wild Nomad has appeared!

RE: A wild Nomad has appeared!
@ignoramus I'll note that on the spiciness. I'll bring you some of the stuff I make for when it's a more chill eating experience.

@no one I gotchu, what kind you want? Carne al pastor? Carnitas? Ropa Vieja? Let me know. Haha.

@BrianSoddingBoru4 ¡Los pastelitos son los mejores! Most especially the guava ones with cream cheese added. I can eat those until I'm sick.

To everyone else that has been welcoming me, thank you so much! Y'all are a very welcoming bunch!

Yeah, those were my first experience with pastelitos. Because of that, I tend to forget there are other kinds (I’m probably wrong, but I think of the ones with meat filling as empanadas).

Ok, now I’m getting the urge to make some...

Empanadas and pastelitos are incredibly similar. In all actuality when a Cuban talks about pastelitos they are talking about the guava variety. They just don't always add cream cheese. For the most part, though, empanadas are much more varied in their filling and such. Mi abuela makes the best apricot ones. Or at least she used to. She hasn't made them in years, since they were my grandfather's favorite and he passed.

I’ve experimented with different fruit fillings over the years since I first discovered them, but I keep coming back to the cream cheese and guava.

You and my mother would get along wonderfully. Guava is her favorite fruit, and she adores pastelitos. I was kind of excited when I found out Goya makes them in a frozen variety that is actually fairly good. Not anything like homemade, of course, but for when you just don't have the energy and time to make them yourself they are quite good.

I know we are supposed to start new threads instead of bumping old ones, but since this was an intro and I was reintroducing myself I figured it might be okay.

Right after I joined life got a little bit crazy and I had to step away for a while, and then, honestly, I lost track of my online communities for a bit in all the craziness and just now remembered that I had joined Atheist Forums. Hoping I'm still welcome, cuz you guys were great!
