To be clear, they chose to celebrate juneteenth  by putting a blm fist on a transgender flag... what does slaves being freed have to do with LBGT? Besides a juneteenth flag exists, why not use that?

I don't have any idea why this video is referring to the Transgender flag as the BLM flag, at this point BLM is nothing more than an LBGT organization.

I am glad you weighed in on this.  I have been under the impression that athene is not all that thrilled with the BLM movement and now it appears that you also don't consider them allies.  That's a side many of us need to hear and take in.

With all the grousing and carrying on over adopting a BLM logo on the forum header and snarky remarks about those of us who didn't jump right on that bandwagon, it's good to hear how this movement really plays to black members of the forum.  I freely admit my ignorance in having knowledge of the movement and just wasn't on board with running that flag up the pole to see who salutes.

A lot of people here would like to be of help when it comes to the racial divide in this country and others but I don't think any of us really wants to start by doing something that isn't going to help and may, in fact, harm.

I've said multiple times that when I used the term BLM, I wasn't thinking of the movement, and I corrected myself. We've established that it's not actually a BLM banner I was thinking of, but rather one that shows support and solidarity with our black members and visitors, so they just *might* feel like there is a space that accepts them without saying "Well, what about us?!" Turns out, all I did was highlight the fact that such a space doesn't exist here, and to put up a banner like that would only be false advertising. I've abandoned the idea, myself. The only submissions we got were from the guy who's a cunt hair away from shouting white power in every thread about BLM, so I'm surprised we even have black members. So, don't worry, everyone. Since we can't seem to extend an olive branch without asking for one in return, we won't be giving away olives here at Atheist Forums.

My point has always been that there are numerous causes and movements.  Choosing one in the heat of the moment in an attempt to be inclusive actually excludes the others.

There is space here for everyone.  For you to knee jerk that there's not because the idea floated wasn't overwhelmingly applauded is ridiculous.

I don't see how you're refuting my claims by again saying "what about?" Sure, there are numerous causes and movements. I decided I thought it would be nice to highlight one. That's not excluding anyone. The kind of people who feel slighted when they're pet cause isn't highlighted but another one is are the same people who cry "All Lives Matter." It's childish.

Oh, there's plenty of space, just not a very inclusive vibe.

You do know that the aggravating factor in Timpa’s case is mental illness and not whiteness, right? Frankly, as someone who has three mental illnesses, I can certainly appreciate a movement that promotes understanding of mental illness, but given how raw a deal black people have had for 400 years, and how it looks like White America has finally started to reckon with how extreme the problem has been, it makes sense that this, of all issues, comes to the forefront.

Although, any black person without a mental illness has it better than any person with a mental illness.

Sux to be a black person with a mental illness.
