How depressing.

Reacting emotionally to loss of a loved one is normal. Many species of life evolved to socialize in groups. That socializing created safety in numbers. Death reminds us of our own mortality and it also reminds us of stability lost.

But, humans shouldn't view that reality as fatalistic or pessimistic. Do you mourn all the life in earth's 4 billion year history that existed  and died prior to your birth? 

I don't want to die myself. But I view life much like a good movie, or good book, or a concert or sporting event. All of those things eventually end. But that does not mean you can't enjoy them while you attend those events.

I love my late mother. And of course I would love to see her again. But that isn't going to happen. I don't focus on her death as fatalistic. Intead, I look back at what we had and focus on the good we had.

Every movie ends. And everyone dies. I wasn't around 4 billion years ago, and I won't be around 10 billion years from now. I won't see my late mother again. But what matters to me now, while I am alive, is what we had, and that is all humans have. That is far more filling to me, than false promises of utopias that do not exist.

My recently deceased father makes regular appearances in my dreams and thoughts...sometimes more than I'd like TBH. Something of an aside Sharon, but do you acknowledge the truth of evolution, of all life on earth, including human beings? Just checking now, wikipedia describes human evolution very much in the style of it being a fact, which I personally find pleasing.

You won't be aware of their nonexistence, nor your own. There's a point where being depressed about something is a choice. You know you have your current life, maybe that should be your focus rather than some after life it's impossible to know anything about even if it was real. The loved ones you still have will appreciate being appreciated, I think.
