What, grifting's important now?
What a stupid thing to say. You must be a fucking idiot.
How is it grifting to develop technology others thought impossible? How is it grifting to give us options we didn't previously have? How is it grifting to demonstrate the false dichotomy between economic prosperity and ecological responsibility?
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Tesla's a shell game. It's a company that'll never make a profit because it was designed not to, instead being used as a funnel to siphon money from investors into Musk's own pockets.
Oh and if the company is inventing technologies that were never dreamt of, why then are the traditional car manufacturers leaving it in the dust. The fact that Tesla is using manufacturing processes investigated and long discarded by them as unsafe, unworkable and uneconomic might have something to do with it. The only thing the company brings to the table is a slighly better battery*, and if you think nobody else could have done that you're a bigger idiot than you think I am.
Musk is a grifter and a snake oil salesman. Nothing else.
*For now.

I like the idea of Tesla. Musk just wanted to create an electric car industry. Investors bidding up the stock to crazy levels is their stupidity.
The problem with Tesla is that they are still too expensive, and their fit and finish sucks. A friend ordered a Model X. When it came he noticed dozens of major paint flaws (laughably bad). He refused delivery.
Nobody would give GM or Chrysler a pass for such shoddy work, but Tesla is seen as a tech company.
That being said, I think SpaceX is awesome.
For a company making stuff in an industry which has solved manufacturing problems, Tesla's workmanship is shockingly bad and it's inability to deliver the goods is even worse. Hence why, outside of southern California, it has no market. The only reason the company's stock is doing so well is because Musk is a Hollywood darling. He has no expertise to bring to the table, he has no ability to run a large company and he definitely doesn't have the people skills nor the temperament to properly bring a project to fruition.
But he is very good at being a grifter, I'll grant you that.
