I write a chapter, and delete it. I've honestly written approximately fifty first chapters that just end up in the bin. I've been referred to as the First Chapter Master, and sometimes I wonder if I should just write first chapters to give them away to others, in order to see how they expand on it.
Personally, I think you should be saving them. What starts out as a first chapter could be adapted to be a later chapter or even another story altogether. I run into this situation all the time.

My houseboy was here to do some housecleaning yesterday. He rode the elevator up to the attic to vacuum clean the vestibule. He didn't realize (or forgot) that the light in the cab goes out 20 seconds after the cab stops. He didn't know where the light switch in the room is, so he was fumbling around in the dark for several minutes. I finally had to bring the elevator down and go up and "rescue" him.

My houseboy was here to do some more chores a few days ago. It seems as if he can't avoid "accidently" riding the elevator from the basement up to the attic and down again nearly every time he arrives.

I must say that I get it. Were I to come to your home I would want to ride up and down in your very own elevator.
