Getting to know you - do you have kids, etc.
September 17, 2021 at 10:58 am
So, who has kids and how many?
When you first started thinking about having children, how many did you want, or did you want none? Who is planning on a family someday?
I have three. I saw myself as having three when I first thought about it but in my mind it was three girls. My first was a girl, my second was a girl...looks like it was working out as planned...my third, a boy. Turns out he was the easiest one to raise and the most like me.
My oldest wanted a bunch of kids...till she had that one turned into a maniac as a toddler. So, one for her. My other daughter has a girl and a boy and my son has a step-daughter and I think he's good with that.
Whatcha got?

We have no children. We’ve opted instead for cats, which are a lot more work (unlike children, you have to feed cats every day).

One son, 33yo, still dependent on dear old dad. Thankfully no grandchildren in the foreseeable future.

I've adopted a variety of nurses and health care workers. They live quite well off of my benefits.

I do not want children, and will never have them. It's a nice idea, but the actual implementation of that idea, would be nothing short of torturous.

I must be a horrible mother...when son was 29 he wasn't holding up his end of the bargain living here rent free. The bargain was that he was to be taking classes and working toward a degree. He was employed full time and had great benefits. He also seemed to think I was his personal maid...nope. He got in a mood one day and said some things he shouldn't have said and I gave him till the end of that year to move out. He bought a house three months later on the other side of town. His old bedroom is now my office/sewing room. Boy, was buying a home and buying his own groceries a wakeup call.

I don't think you'll need to worry about that.

Many are thankful that you don't intend to reproduce.

We weren't sure when we first got married; it just wasn't a priority. So we waited 8 years, talked about it, and decided yeah, why not. We had two girls 4 years apart. One is still in college; the other out in the world and is a BSN, just in time for covid, of course. The empty nest is great for me and the missus. We eat what we want, go where we want and only have a boss when the young one comes home from college. We're glad we waited because we had a blast in our 20's with good income and few responsibilities.
Side note: a lot of adults called us selfish for not rushing to have children. I don't think that's a fair characterization. It's a bit old fashioned now and I doubt people hear it anymore.
Why is it so?

Two and a half kids, (the half is from an earlier marriage, lost touch completely, probably wouldn't know him if he walked in) The other two now grown up, one living at the other end of the country, totally independent, the other moved out about a year ago, living about 20 miles away, but still phones if he needs anything, I can't imagine two more different people!
