I’m an anti-Natalist, so no kids. Reading Schopenhauer and prolonged exposure to some of the shittier parts of life on Earth (not to mention being acutely aware of how difficult it was to raise me, especially with my being on the spectrum) have cured me of that desire. And given that I’ve been dating a body pillow for over a year and a half, I don’t think that’s likely to change.

We have 3 sons, all in their 30s. Eldest is in the Air Force, so he's off my tit, but the two others still live at home. One works in a hardware store, the other works as a security guard. They'll probably be living here when I die.  It's a family thing on my side, I guess. My mother had two of my brothers living at her home even after she died- until we closed probate and the house was sold. I thought we were going to need a crow bar to get the one brother out. There were 8 siblings in my family, and I had hopes for 6 children myself, but the wife stopped at 3 sons, as even if we did have a girl, she didn't want her so outnumbered.

We have two kids AND four cats. Can confirm; the cats are more work.

The boy is in grad school for history.  He's all in and will be a professor eventually.  I blame myself.  Early one Sunday morning, I was watching the Last Shogun, enjoying a grown-up movie and some time to myself.  He wakes and comes in.  Mom won't be up any time soon.  I say, what the heck, and let him watch.  He loved it.  After that, he couldn't get enough history.  We watched Barbarians several times over and later made Vikings a ritual.  At 10 he was reading historical fiction about the Romans.  Nowadays, he knows his shit.

The girl is in her senior year of psychology, wanting to continue in speech pathology.  She teaches voice and piano at School of Rock, where she was a student from ages 13-18.  She's the singer and musician my dad wanted me to be.  He died way before she was born.

We waited 10 years, until we were established professionals and home owners.  We were a good parenting team but fell out as companions.  Divorced 10 years ago.

I have three step-sons, two of which live in the same area and visit often.  The five are evenly spaced from 22-33.  No grandkids yet, much to the dish's disappointment.  Not even an engagement, just shacking up, hesitant to bring a kid into the world.  I remind them that dumb people aren't at all hesitant, which gives them an obligation to the gene pool.  And their sweet mother.

One daughter, 35.  Professional artist, lives and works on top floor of my house.  She's a science geek like me (very interested in botany).

In addition to her availability for house-sitting when I travel, I'm often awakened at odd hours like 4 a.m. by the aroma of fresh baked goods.  We have a major win-win symbiosis here.  Heart

I must be a horrible mother...when son was 29 he wasn't holding up his end of the bargain living here rent free.  The bargain was that he was to be taking classes and working toward a degree.  He was employed full time and had great benefits.  He also seemed to think I was his personal maid...nope.  He got in a mood one day and said some things he shouldn't have said and I gave him till the end of that year to move out.  He bought a house three months later on the other side of town.  His old bedroom is now my office/sewing room.  Boy, was buying a home and buying his own groceries a wakeup call.

I moved back home about ten years ago, deep in the recession, as I was doing a government funded post graduate and it would save me money, enough to be able to travel to do the post-grad. While unemployed I paid €20 a week did half the cooking and about 75% of the manual labour. After I got gainfully employed the rent went up to €50 (despite me wanting to pay more) and a slight reduction in big labour (less time). I also took over fuelling, taxing and insuring my mother's car in the year between getting my full licence and being able to buy my own car.

Needless to say, all this was a huge bargain compared to renting. I have since moved out because I had to move on promotion.

Two spawn. One girl, bi-sexual. One neutral, pan-sexual (biologically female) Both are in their twenties, still living at home. Number one spawn just finished her bachelor's degree and is considering next steps. Number two spawn seems to be working on a degree in slacking, gaming and generally fucking off. Dodgy

I knew it was time to leave home when Mum started wrapping my lunches in a road map. Subtle, that woman.
