The sad thing is, if we lived in Alabama in 1960, most of us probably would have. After all, we’d probably have had overt white supremacy inculcated into us for decades. That said, if you think much the same way 62 years later where such shit isn’t normalised (even if it actually is, in a subtler and more insidious form), it’s then we have a huge problem.

You make a valid point, but there were white southerners who weren't racist in 1960. The racist faction impressed their power to keep those people from standing up to the issue. I can honestly say that I felt that normalization even growing up in the 70's and 80's. It wasn't gone then, just less normalized, less accepted. And now it's getting a resurgence from people like Trump and apparently Ahriman and IA.
Why is it so?

I think it is extremely bad, to the point that we are at serious risk of losing our democracy very soon. That's pretty bad. Thanks to people like you. Just remember when they come for you, that you applauded it the whole way. Being in Stalin's court was no guarantee you wouldn't be on the next train to Siberia.

I mean, even if you're right, I can't change who or what I am. But I don't think I'm that bad. I mean, I don't vote, so any unforeseen complications that arise from certain people being voted into power, are not my fault.

I'm certainly glad to hear you don't vote; you aren't informed enough to vote. You can't change some things about yourself, like your race or age, but that doesn't mean you can't change bad behavior, educate yourself on matter you obviously know nothing about, and change your attitude about things once you are better informed. Thinking that you are what you are and nothing about you will ever change is complete bunk. I have changed in many ways over my lifetime; plenty of people do. And when you say something isn't a problem simply because you don't know its a problem, you are merely choosing to be willfully ignorant. I choose to be a better person.

Well a Republican governor just took office in my state yesterday, so that's nice.

I hope you continue to think so when that Republican governor rolls back freedoms for gay people.
