I see what you're saying, and that sort of game has its time and place for me too (though generally I suck at it ), but nothing burrows into my head and takes up residence quite as much as these 'life sim'/do-whatever-you-want type games (like NMS, Stardew Valley, or Astroneer). Just in case you're interested though, NMS has plenty of combat if that's the path you want to take, both in terms of epic space battles and land battles on foot... so if you want to spend your game fighting pirates or indeed even becoming a pirate, or fighting sentinel (robot/drone) armies, or exploring strange and creepy planets and structures, with traps, hazards, and aliens... you can do that too... there are just so many different ways to play this game. My aim on controller is terrible so I suck at those aspects of the game, so prefer to stick to my mining and base building etc, but for those who do enjoy combat, there's more than enough in this game and they're always adding more. Like one the latest things they've added is Star Wars-like 'trenches' that you can fly through, attacking turrets and stuff on these massive freighters that you can fight... so you tactically work on taking out different aspects of the ship... its shields, its engines etc, to disable it, before destroying it. I haven't tried that yet meself but it looks very impressive on YouTube.

Actually, NMS looks interesting, but I've got way too many games as it is.

Finished the first act of Baldur's Gate 3. It is quite amazing, though I found out I missed half the magical items.

Trying to decide whether to start on Starfield or focus on games I've already started.

Restarting Ori and the Will O' Wisps on Easy difficulty. I was getting my ass kicked on normal difficulty. It's a much harder game than Ori and the Blind Forest.

How did I not know (or forget) that No Man's Sky has an awesome aim assist feature for space battles? I've been at my wits end fighting those space battles... barely able to get the enemies in my sights, let alone get enough shots on them to do enough damage before their shields regenerate and they're out of sight again for another round of cat and mouse. But this aim assist - or 'auto follow' - feature is going to be a game changer for me. Hold down the left trigger and it wll literally lock onto a target and follow them until you let go, and whilst it's locked on, your shots perfectly hit the target. Absolutely amazing, but I have to say it's a mystery to me how anyone does it without using this feature.

I got baldurs gate 3 and tried to see how far I could get no reloads on a first try without looking at guides.
I made it off that space ship and killed by the first group of people I came across.
The combat system is way way different from the previous baldurs gates which I knew it would be I just didn't realise how different.
I find it really strange you can pick what kind of penis or vulva you have but can't put specific amounts of stars into your weapon proficiencies. They just seem to come with whatever race or class you choose.
I've realised there's a lot more emphasis on using the environment and tactics, I'm going to try and stealth my way thru the start of the game, I orinally tried to tank through just using a warrior dwarf but it didn't seem to work out.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.
