Burning the Bible

Your question seemed rhetorical to me. I apologise if I misunderstood, but not for being testy;it's one of my more attractive qualities, I assure you.

Who said anything about anger?

Only a Theist would be THAT sensitive and take the ideology that people should do as THEY say

At the end of the day they are just books...out of date and out of fashion...they will be burned or composted or thrown into the great midden that is humanities rubbish heap...there is nothing sacred about them raayan...since there is nothing sacred about all those works that have been destroyed over the centuries by religious zealots in the name of their deity.

It's alright cobber, I gave you one too. Cool Shades

But the burning of any book, regardless of it's content is wrong.

Yes, thousands of books every year are remaindered because they haven't sold. But that's different.

Book burning is a political statement and in my mind one step removed from burning people at the stake.

So fucking what if you don't agree with it.

Just because because you don't like it does not give you the right to destroy it.

Yes, I find the bible and the quran equally repugnant and abhorrent, and I'm still astonished that anyone capable of tying their own shoelaces could ever take them seriously.

But to burn them for what they contain?

That would make us worse than the nazi's and the religious nutters that would would seek to "protect" us from knowledge that they deem dangerous.

Afterall how would you feel if a christian or a muslim called for the burning of "The origin of species"?

They are in the end only books and will be turned to dust anyway.

Burning books for a political statement?? Childishness !

I totally agree!! Like I said and you know.."I am still upset over the Burning of the Library of Alexandria" but I also acknowledge the fact that paper will deteriorate and so a few books get burnt?? Big fucking deal. Books are so CHEEP in this century that they are almost worthless and they are easily replaced.

The VALUE of their (mass produced books) content is another matter entirely.

As I said thousands of books get remaindered every year, but that is just economics.

The burning of books though, that is a statement, "I fear what this book contains and it should be destroyed"

And when societies start the book burnings look how it usually ends.Undecided

Honey, you are STILL thinking politically. Books get burnt the knowledge does not

It is just the actions of childish imbeciles.

I don't condone burning any kind of books, even bronze age storybooks. Besides, the bible isn't the fault, its the fucktards that take it as real.

RE: Burning the Bible

But I got to thinking ...

One, I've never actually burned a Bible - mostly because I just never had one handy at a campfire - or wherever I may have needed some kindling. And Two ... I never much cared.

Anyway the questions: Have you ever burned a Bible? If so why? If not - would you?
Thoughts?

When I was younger - the only accepted way to dispose of a supposed blessed object like the bible WAS to burn the object

I have burned several bibles along with a number of other so called "blessed objects"

Note - as a former catholic - bibles NOT approved by the church - especially the King James versions - were considered heretical trash - and burning them was not an issue at all
