One of America's largest grocers just admitted they jacked up the price of food staples just because they could and not because of inflation.

Quote:Atop company leader at Kroger has admitted during an antitrust trial the company gouged prices on select items above inflation levels.

While testifying to a Federal Trade Commission attorney Tuesday, Kroger's Senior Director for Pricing Andy Groff said the grocery giant had raised prices for eggs and milk beyond inflation levels.

"This is not at all surprising," Drew Powers, the founder of Illinois-based Powers Financial Group, told Newsweek. "Companies across multiple industries have been posting record profits since the COVID-19 crisis while consumers have faced the highest inflation in recent history. The math can only point to companies raising prices above the general level of inflation. As the old saying goes, 'Never let a good crisis go to waste.'"

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Only surprising thing in it is the fact that they admitted to price gouging.

Your link starts with the words "The Israeli military says..." Anything after that must be taken with extreme caution.

I stand corrected, however. Hamas has traditionally worked only in Gaza, but recent provocations have no doubt caused them to branch out.

"Hamas said [...]" prefaces the point. Of course Hamas operates in the West Bank.

Anyway, I apologize for getting us off the main topic. The point is that there is a new military assault on the West Bank. The Israeli army targets civilians. The goal is ethnic cleansing.

Armed resistance to an occupying army is not terrorism.

I'm certainly not arguing in support of Israeli atrocities. But if you think Hamas doesn't have any folks dead in the WB, let's see your evidence for "extreme caution". Otherwise you're just poisoning the well.

But again, you can do that in your own thread if you truly feel verklempt about it. If you don't put up the thread, that will be a measure of your true concern.

Be sure to drop a link to that thread here, so that those interested can follow this sidebar in depth.

Terrorizing other civilians in retaliation of an army doing ....whatever, is. For example: killing people at weddings, abducting them, etc.

Both sides should stop killing people at weddings and abducting people.

RE: Noteworthy News
It's true that I made a mistake when I said that Hamas was not in the West Bank.

So I spent some time going back through the books I've read, in order to figure out how I got it wrong.

Apparently Hamas was an offshoot of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood Movement, which had been active in Gaza since the 1950s. Though this movement had also played a role in creating the PLO's Fatah movement, the two groups disagreed about how they should react to the Israeli occupation of Gaza in 1967. They felt that Fatah was not aggressive enough in its resistance. So the Brotherhood's more nationalist and activist movement was known as Hamas.

In an effort to divide and conquer, and especially to weaken Fatah, the Israeli government discretely supported Hamas in the beginning, helping to fund it. In 2006 Hamas defeated Fatah in elections. Fatah didn't accept the results of the election and started a series of battles with Hamas. Hamas won in Gaza, and since then have been the official government over that region. (How much power they actually have over the rank and file is a matter of debate.) In the West Bank, however, Hamas was ousted from any government role.

(Note that the last elections in Gaza were 18 years ago; several thousand of the victims of the recent genocide weren't born yet.)

So my error was in thinking that because Hamas has an official elected role in Gaza, and not in the West Bank, it meant that they were not active in the West Bank. In fact since it is not simply a political party, and no doubt has active members in different regions and countries, I should have known that some Hamas people would be involved with the West Bank struggle as well.

But again, talk about exactly Palestinian group is where is a distraction from the point we should all be focussed on: there is an ongoing genocide, it is among the worst in our lifetimes, and the US government is making it possible. (This month saw more US arms shipments to Israel than in any month this year.) Kamala says she is working tirelessly to bring peace. She is in fact NOT working tirelessly to bring peace.
