Tariffs work for the economy, if all your trading partners just suck it up and take the hit. But they won't, and in the end the reduction in trade makes the economy poorer.
Trump is likely going to claim that he can force that outcome - force all other countries to suck it up "or else". The first country that does countervailing duties will be hit with ever-escalating tariffs by Trump. The problem is, every country is going to do it. A world-wide trade war will tank the stock market and the economy.
If they have a problem with it, they can take their business elsewhere; and frankly the countries he has mostly heavily advocated for tariffs against - places like China & Iran - are places *no* American business should be doing business with to begin with.
"Every country is going to do it." only if they wish to see their own economies fail. I refuse to buy Russian and Chinese propaganda, Islamic propaganda, to the point that the West has become such a decrepit old man that must be beholden to their interests.
It's like you don't know that exports comprise $3 trillion of our internal economy -- to wit, we provide $3T of stuff and services to export.
What do you think might happen once Der Trumpenstein starts laying down tariffs on imports? Don't you think the countries absorbing our exports will reply in kind? And can our internal economy soak up those goods and services?

Quote:@ 0:00 Results have already started. This is from an american woman today: My husband works for a small manufacturing company and here in southwestern PA that means most employees Trump voters. When the president of the company sat them down today to tell them their annual Christmas bonus would not come this year because they now need to purchase at least a years worth of products prior to January 21 st due to the proposed tariffs, they did not understand. My husband said that their president had to explain what a tariff is and how it will directly hurt the company. They all thought the foreign company paid the tariff. This is the level of ignorance voting against their own interests here in PA, where we failed American women and children last night.
Some people don’t know what a tariff is?
I think that tariffs are great. For example, the USA buys a lot of softwood lumber from Canada. By putting on a lot of tax on canadian wood, USA companies will have to shift and buy wood from USA sources.
That would mean that your end product ends up costing more.
As a result, the citizen republican might stop bitching about inflation.
Searches for 'Did Biden drop out?' on Google spiked just before election day. A LOT of people don't pay much attention to politics, a lot don't really understand implications of policy, and a lot of them depend on people they trust to tell them how to vote. And the people they're trusting often don't have their best interests at heart, or are clueless themselves.

No, I was just raised by a family that put Americans before people who chant for our death.
If you believe our allies are going to flip out of a 10% tariff then I don't know what to say. That is a *steal* and they would actually be braindead not to take it.
I think a lot of your fellow democrats and republicans would agree that China, Russia, North Korea, Iraq, Syria, Iran and a few others are “evil”.
However, Donald has said that he envies Putin, Xi, Kim Jung Il.
Would you agree with him?
Were you aware that he has said stuff like this?

About Xi, Donald says:
“Think of President Xi. Central casting, brilliant guy. You know, when I say he’s brilliant, everyone says, ‘Oh that’s terrible,'” said Trump during the event. “Well, he runs 1.4 billion people with an iron fist. Smart, brilliant, everything perfect. There’s nobody in Hollywood like this guy. I got them to pay us $28 billion because they screwed our farmers for years.”
“He’s for China, I’m for the U.S., but other than that, we love each other.”
“President Xi, who’s friend of mine, who’s a very, very good man.”
“President Xi is a brilliant man. If you went all over Hollywood to look for somebody to play the role of President Xi, you couldn’t find, there’s nobody like that. The look, the brain, the whole thing. We had a great relationship.”
“My feeling toward you is an incredibly warm one.”
Trump has also previously made comments about President Xi ruling with “an iron fist,” and in 2018 he praised the Chinese leader for becoming “president for life.”
“He’s now president for life,” Trump said. “President for life. And he’s great. And look, he was able to do that. I think it’s great. Maybe we’ll give that a shot someday.”

Putin’s invasion of Ukraine is “genius” and “pretty savvy”

Does that include The Trump Organization? And there won’t be an elsewhere to take their business - Trump is promising a 60% tariff on China and a 10% tariff on ALL other trading partners. If this fantasy comes to fruition, it’s going to be nothing but barney for the US.
Free trade lowers the overall cost of goods and services. Protectionism raises those costs. This is Econ 101.
