I don't really follow baseball, but I just read that one player has signed a 15-year contract for $765 million. How the fuck is baseball that profitable??

All that money comes from the fans. It is unbelievable what the concessions bring in. Last I checked (20 years ago) two 7 oz beers and two hot dogs was over $30. I don't care for sports either, but wife wanted to take her dad to a ball game for his birthday, and insisted on the beer and hot dog. I didn't want either one, tbh.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

This doesn't even include the licensed merchandise - hats, jackets, jerseys, mini bats, etc.
A place where I worked brought us to a Rangers game. I bought a shirt for that day that I have worn exactly once...it certainly was not worth the price. I need to put that damn thing on FB marketplace and get a few bucks out of it.

At least I got something for my money- heartburn from the hot dog.

And fans will attempt to, and sometimes kill, fans of the opposing team. Soccer is famous for this sort of thing; we've all seen it in the news. My father-in-law was waiting in his car for my eldest son to come out after playing the bass guitar during a football game and had guys roll over the hood of his car, fighting after the game. He was old; I sure am glad that the broken windshield protected him from serious injury or death, right there on the spot.

Add in the fact that the view from the couch is better than you'll ever get from lower bowl, 50-yard line seats, or seats behind the plate, and I don't understand why people continue to attend pro games. I live in the Denver metro area, am a huge Broncos fan, and have way better things to do than go to a game on Sunday.
College games however, largely remain affordable, and are a lot of fun to attend. Especially non-football games. I can take the whole family to a DU hockey game and get decent seats for what 1 600 level seat costs for an Avs game. And Nuggets games... fuggitaboutit!
