- I sort of get your point. That’s not the issue. I sort of agree with you on this too. But I am a real person who lives in a real part of this world. So my reference was not (only) about this forum. I was talking about social media. I don’t even have social media to the exception of YouTube. And I am simply terrified by the posts that I am reading in the comments sections of some of my (usually reliable) news outlets.
 
And I did mention the in other places. There are posts like “Muslim Iran is bringing the world to its knees” or “Traitor Arab states are being severely punished by Iran” or “Israel is in the process of disintegration” or under one of these Iranian smoking cigar videos falling on Israel they bring a dozen of troll messages that I won’t even repeat here that are in the order of “We are finishing the job that A. Hitler had left unfinished.
 
Seriously: My X / Twitter account is not non-existent. It’s just that I am not seen anywhere because I see all of these manipulations, thought control, mindless propaganda, and all of this group mentality based on ethnic, religious, national or political identities.
 
So I have a topic in the “Noteworthy News” section where we can talk Iran if you want. That’s not the issue. I posted this thread because I am serious worried about the more modern forms of group behavior that is induced by real hypnosis and subliminal messaging methods that are being used on an industrial scale on ordinary social media consumers like… us.
 
Back to our issue on Iran:
 
- I really understand your position on this. I never said I supported this campaign by D. Trump. I only said I was indifferent. There is a difference.
 
But what is angering me about this is that the only thing that the IRI needs to do to claim victory is to survive this attack by the US and Israel. All they need to do is to have some part of their terror-State apparatus to survive and maintain some sort of missile and/or drone threat on the strait of Hormuz.
The rest belong to their propaganda machine (that I am hearing loud and clear). Than (at least in the mind of most social media users) Iran will be the new Vietnam or the New Castro and Che Guevara who delivered a fatal blow to American / Western Imperialism.
 
That’s all I said. The same works for the war in Ukraine too. It’s just the amount of lies and subliminal messages that are being spread through seeming harmless sources of information. And there are time when I really don’t know.
 
There is this war of information here and D. Trump saying one thing today and another the next day is not helping us either.

I see all of this as a sign that we are not that evolved as a specie in general. I think mankind is an ongoing project that is newly emerging from the dark ages.
 
1000 years ago the clergy and the noble would simply decide what is right for us to believe and right for us to do. Today we are dealing with the same narcissists who think it’s just normal to get into our brains like that and reprogram our brains to love this or that leader. Hate this or that country. And this one there is a Nazi Drug dealer. That one there is the “savior of all Muslim nations”. So where is this all going? That was my question

Everyone sees what they see in such a complex work of art here. But I see propaganda, I see identities, I see death, I see a lamp (wisdom) that doesn’t even produce any light, I see folly, I see ideologies, Communism, Fascism, civil war, resistance, and counter-resistance.
 
So this is so 20th century. This is the truth of our times. We need reason. We need verifiable reality. We need critical thinking. We need (yes) atheism. We need logical discussions. We need to be able to test ourselves and/or our opinions etc.

It's not that it's boring. It's that it's so obvious to everyone here that the fact you feel the need to lecture us about it leads me to believe you just don't credit us with much in the way of brains. In a similar vein you consistently write "D. Trump", as if we're unable within this context to figure out you're talking about the American president.

I love Guernica. I've framed several prints of it and it invariably moves me when I ponder it. I don't see its theme as being the Spanish Civil War; I see that war as the context and setting for the painting's theme, which I think is the brutal and inhumane depths we humans may sink, to the point that even animals must suffer our moral failings and where enlightenment is out of reach. I'll give you a quick heuristic for knowing whether messaging is subliminal or harmless. If it's coming from the whitehouse, it's neither. While our military was fucking up iran, he was sitting in the gallery to remind the clerics on our courts who sent them there as they decided whether being born in america makes you american.

The idea that opposing the attack upon Iran indicates an unthinking acceptance of trollery or propaganda is horseshit. I oppose it because 1) it puts my fellow GIs in harm's way to no good purpose, and 2) it's fucking up not only our own economy but that of the world.

As I said with all their culture and sophistications many European countries are facing the challenge of populist far-right and far-left movements and all of the have adapted their ways of doing politics despite 15%, 20% Populist Party representatives in their respective parliaments. Georgia which is still officially a EU candidate, has also succumbed to populism and re-entering Russian Orbit. And In Ukraine, if there was no Maidan Revolution, they would have become a Belarus-like country and there would probably be no war with Ukraine at all.
 
To this I may add the US President. Any time he is talking it has to ne “Great” or “smoothly” or “fantastic” or terrible. His entire way of talking seem to be inputs that are made into the collective subconscious of Americans. And by the way, almost everything he says is either false, lacking or exaggerated.  
 
A. Hitler used all of these methods this on his own people in the 30’s. And I think the same methods are being used on us on a much larger scale. And we may be more resilient than people in the 30’s. But if we were completely resilient someone like D. Trump would not have been elected for a second term right?
