A piece of music I composed
This is a relatively recent original composition by me.

RE: A piece of music I composed
What's it about?
"Sisters, you know only the north; I have traveled in the south lands. There are churches there, believe me, that cut their children too, as the people of Bolvangar did--not in the same way, but just as horribly. They cut their sexual organs, yes, both boys and girls; they cut them with knives so that they shan't feel. That is what the Church does, and every church is the same: control, destroy, obliterate every good feeling. So if a war comes, and the Church is on one side of it, we must be on the other, no matter what strange allies we find ourselves bound to."

I originally wrote it with a specific character I created in mind. The genre of the story he was going to be in was sort of steampunk/dystopia hybrid. In the story the character was biologically immortal. It was a little more complex than that (and the story idea is currently on the back-burner), but one of the central themes was dealing with meaning and purpose in the face of an endless (or very long) life. I imagined the character being very lonely given that anyone they've ever been close to has died. I tried to evoke a feeling of despair that perhaps grasped them when they thought of the past. I chose the organ because of its indefinite sustain and also because I just love the sound of it.

This isn't the only kind of music I write; I'm actually working on a metal instrumental now and I've done a few orchestral type arrangements for pieces I like.

I thought there would be a story behind it. I've written creepy/depressing orchestral/organ music like this before, and it is always based on a character I've created in one of my stories or on a specific situation.

It helps with writing the whole piece, doesn't it? You've got a goal in mind, rather than just creating random melodies with a vague idea of what you want to accomplish, haha.

Here's something I did in a similar vein, but with strings and piano:

Also, here's some samba style music I wrote for a change of pace! Big Grin

To hear compositions on organ that are outside of religious context is amazing. And I love what you did! I am friends with a bunch of organists and they only play in churches. Beautiful and majestic sounds though!
