Anytime the "my god's bigger than your god" thing comes up, all I see is "who was the better Captain: Kirk or Picard?"

The answer is Kirk, of course.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I think Janeway could take Picard in a fist fight, but being a good captian has little to do with fist fights. Unless you were on the orginal enterprise..

Absolutely. Also the series wasn't as much of a soap opera then, either. Just like with Doctor Who, confusing interlocking story arcs were yet to appear.
