http://skippy.org.uk/dear-o2-i-dont-thin...k-it-does/

It's not free because taking a few seconds to enter your number constitutes monetary payment? Really?

RE: Point and laugh
I don't think the writer's concern was about monetary payment, but rather disclosure of info that allows O2/Debenhams to add them to marketing/spam lists. I do think it is a deliberate hook to get people to read the article, though. They've been studying grey-hat SEO techniques, which encourage bloggers to use misleading language in order to garner more article views.

Because they outnumber us and [in the US] are also allowed to have guns, lots of them..

An American might know this: Is it true that there is an inverse measurement between the number of guns one owns and one's IQ? Thinking

PS I'm assuming you refer to refer the morons who could not grasp the reason for the complaint? IE a conditional gift is not free.

RE: Point and laugh
When I saw this thread I thought it was because you'd seen my pictures in Area 69. Now I've read the piece: agreeing to third-party marketing is so incredibly common it's almost part of the fabric of our online society. It's usually buried deep within the bowels of those Terms and Conditions that just about everyone scrolls past to get to the "I agree" button. However, while it may be a sneaky and underhand way of sending you advertising, based on the principle of how can it be spam, i.e. unsolicited material, if you've agreed to receive it, it's not really that big a problem for most people. If the worst comes to the worst you should have the option to opt out (that came out rather poetic, didn't it? Smile)

All that said, I notice that Skippy decided to accept all that anyway, despite his grumblings, since he mentions not being able to receive the confirmatory SMS due to no signal. So what exactly is his problem, again?
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'
