There are a few good narratives in it (subject to opinion obviously), nothing that you won't find anywhere else (or done better) in secular literature...but you can hardly fault the authors for that, few thousand years of literature between those stories and our own.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Skeptics annotated misses out on some of the more nuanced bits. Cain and abel narrative, pillar of salt...song of solomon..etc.
(of course it would, because fiction is fiction...and anything that attempts to honestly address why fiction is fiction misses out on the best parts of fiction)

Yeah, and maybe he chose to give it up?
Maybe for ironic reasons or something along those lines. Maybe he was going power mad and being all loving acknowledged that and so gave up his power? RE: Permanent omnipotence?

But couldn't he choose to give it up whilst simultaneously retaining it?

Logically contradictory omnipotence is impossible. Only omnipotence within logic is possible.
Omnipotence is the power to do anything, and anything that is logically impossible isn't anything at all, so to only be able to do the logically possible is still omnipotence because you can still do anything that is actually anything. Which is what omnipotence is: the ability to do anything that is actually anything. RE: Permanent omnipotence?

You mean an omnipotent motherfucker is ultimately subject to the same limitations that I am? What a let-down.
