I'm not sure why you got banned. Were you not being angry enough towards religion? I is confused.

Thanks Atheism+. I didn't think it was possible for me to feel bad for LionIRC.

It's pretty stupid. I read their thread and it led me to do a little research on Unitarians.

They were holding Unitarian Universalism responsible for the atrocities of the Bible, right? Wikipedia thinks that's a bad idea. Here's the first two paragraphs on their entry there (emphasis mine):

Wikipedia Wrote:Unitarian Universalism is a theologically liberal religion characterized by support for a "free and responsible search for truth and meaning".[1] Unitarian Universalists do not share a creed; rather, they are unified by their shared search for spiritual growth and by the understanding that an individual's theology is a result of that search and not obedience to an authoritarian requirement. Unitarian Universalists draw on many different theological sources and have a wide range of beliefs and practices.
Contemporary Unitarian Universalism espouses a pluralist approach to religious belief, whereby members may describe themselves as atheist, agnostic, ignostic, deist, monotheist, pantheist, polytheist, pagan, or assume no label at all. As of 2006, fewer than about 20% of Unitarian Universalists identified themselves as Christian.[2]

If they had wanted to attack Christian Universalism, that would be a legitimate attack because, yeah, the Bible is filled with some horrible stuff. It's kinda absurd.

Wow.. I don't know what your stance on secular marriages is Lion, but this chick sure made it all about herself really fast. Big Grin

These chicks have sticks so far up their butts that soon they'll have twigs growing out of their mouths..

I think it was the reference to Adam Lee/Ebonmuse having decided to get married in that church and him ALSO being a member of Atheism Plus forum.
Not sure if they realised that fact before they started in on UU folk demanding to know how they reconcile their universalism with bad/naughty/ebil Christianity.

They turned the blowtorch, (the wrath of Flewellyns' nose-lasers,) onto me when I agreed with Claire-B that core religious values dont include the things we were being asked to defend/reconcile.

I specifically said I hold core religious views and yet I find all of those things The_Laughing_Coyote posted disgusting and abhorrent.

Flewellyn (the Mod) claimed that I was stating something as fact but in a moment of poor reading/comprehension xie conflated the holding of an opinion with an assertion of fact.

The only FACT I had to defend was that I really DO believe those are not core religious values. It is a FACT that I hold that POV.

I did offer to debate the proposition made by The_Laughing_Coyote but I dont think they wanted me to do that.

Then came the....bible says witches should put to death. Thats horrible. ETC.

And I responded along the lines of....only real witches, right? It doesnt say people who ARENT witches should be put to death.

And then in the middle of typing my next post....zap.

On undernet #atheism they would at least give you some warning.

The Chan Ops would let you know a boot was coming....
