Those small paychecks mean consumers are speding less, causing the economy to falter, and quite likey, it would create a new recession even though wer're still crawling out of the last.

I don't personally, if that's what you mean.. I don't even live in the US for most of the year. I also don't really own anything. All my material possessions can fit into a backpack. Nobody needs it. We need to eat. We don't need a 3D T.V.

If that is really your argument, why does it not apply to the rich? Oh because they can afford it? Well the middle class can afford it too. The middle class have an absurd standard of living. People need to travel and see real poverty.

The middle class may very well be able to afford it, but when the economy tanks, it's the middle class jobs that are on the chopping block.

Compared to Europe, the US is booming.

I realize that, but the point of mentioning that was as we were still trying to crawl out of the last one, the economy is somewhat fragile and could be more vulnerable to the fiscal cliff.

I really hate statements like that. Are you actually comparin us to places like Somalia or Ethopia and saying "We aren't really poor! Look at them!" It's like pointing to nations like Saudi Arabia or Iran and saying "Religion doesn't really have influence over our government! Look at them!" Why don't we shoot for something better than 'bottom of the barrel.'

I'd like to note, here, that some people here *are* in an equivalent state to the poor of Somalia and Ethiopia Tongue Starving, maybe no clothing but that which is on their back, no job, no income, and perhaps not even a 4-walled shelter. Also, diseased and with dying children.

It doesn't matter which one. That's the problem.

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this; 53 percent of the nation agrees with me. The president's approval rating is higher than his Republican counterparts and more people think the Republicans need to be willing to compromise on the fiscal cliff deal than think the Dems need to compromise.

The big question for the Republican party is, are they going to listen to these stats and use them to become a more mainstream political party or are they going to stay in their echo chamber and get even more extreme?

53% of americans don't vote........................NEWSFLASH
