hipster Atheist

Have any of you noticed a particular breed of Atheist arisen in the past few years about ages 17 to 23 that are all "hipster" and they are all about their lack of faith! A large number of my "friends" on Facebook I'd describe this way. They dress like hipsters and spend all their posts talking about their non-relationship with God in the most facepalm inducing hipsteresque ways. They also post a lot of Instagram filtered photos of their outdoor meetings.( ) I can't tell what their problem is. Sometimes it sounds like radical left wing socialism, but it's also has conservative elements as well.
I guess douche bags are douche bags, and will incorporate their douche baggery into whatever they believe.

Thanks for noticing, Drich. It is either Noam Chomsky or Ron Paul and Vice magazine (what a winning combination).
I hate this crap. They all think their worldview comes out of something more than a trend, as they write against Christian "sexism" while they are listening to Clipse talk about selling coke and pimping hoes.
Hipsters political and religious beliefs are I would estimate 50-90% to be cool (when you examine them closely, what they are really sacrificing, what really motivates them, how they make decisions, what sort of methodology they use to understand the world). That goes for the ones that are PhD's in sociology.

Douchebags will be douchebags, alright. Look at you, fukkin beta. U scared, brah? Here you are, gossiping about these people behind their back while they have the times of their lives being hipster atheists and gawking at you dumbfuck theists. Concerning yourself with their instagram photo shit. Get a life, bro. Who is the sad cunt, again?
By the way, hipsters don't exist.
""Hipster" is a term co-opted for use as a meaningless pejorative in order to vaguely call someone else's authenticity into question and, by extension, claim authenticity for yourself.
It serves no conversational function and imparts no information, save for indicating the opinions and preferences of the speaker.
Meanwhile, a market myth has sprung up around the term, as well as a cultural bogeyman consisting of elusive white 20-somethings who wear certain clothes (but no one will agree on what), listen to certain music (no one can agree on this either), and act a certain way (you've probably sensed the pattern on your own).
You can't define what "that kind of behavior or fashion or lifestyle" actually is, nor will you ever be able to. That's because you don't use "hipster" to describe an actual group of people, but to describe a fictional stereotype that is an outlet for literally anything that annoys you.
The twist, of course, is that if it weren't for your own insecurities, nothing that a "hipster" could do or wear would ever affect you emotionally. But you are insecure about your own authenticity - "Do I wear what I wear because I want to? Do I listen to my music because I truly like it? I'm certainly not like those filthy hipsters!" - so you project those feelings.
Suffice it to say, no one self-identifies as a hipster; the term is always applied to an Other, to separate the authentic Us from the inauthentic, "ironic" Them.
tl;dr: if you believe hipsters exist, you are a dumbass."

I spent my young adult years going to indie rock concerts, paying attending to radical politics, taking acid and heroin and doing stupid stuff to be cool, all the while thinking I was ok because I knew that God didn't exist that was transmitted through this megaphone of higher education + the underground music subculture.
Everyone was an atheist. Everyone had this and that reason why God wasn't real. THey all read books by Bertrand Russell and Nietzsche and knew that they knew everything and that they could take acid and smoke weed and be intellectuals because Steve Jobs did it and they could still think straight enough to see that religion was all a bunch of BS.
Now a lot of them are teaching in higher education.
Who is the real douche bag? The one who teaches and indoctrinates people in music scenes out of all the acid they have eaten or the one who says "WHY DON'T YOU JUST LET KIDS GROW UP BEFORE YOU TRY AND MESS THEIR MINDS UP WITH POLITICAL PROPAGANDA"
Left wing organizers are the most cynical people on earth.

Left wing organizers are going to burn in hell. You're right. Atheism is just a tool used by the left. Atheism hinders you from growing. If you're an atheist, it's because you smoke weed - or maybe you smoke weed because you're an atheist. Meh.

"atheism is just a tool used by the left"
-
Instead of trying to split hairs about whether atheism is exclusively a tool of the left, why not reason like an adult and actually address the very real concern, which is the part of atheism that DEFINITELY IS a tool used by the left.
What percentage of the atheist movement do you think are radicals, if you had to estimate? Do you think it is higher or lower than the general population? I think it is probably like 5 or 6 times higher, based on my experience.
Why can't you step outside of your ideological view of life that you support by mocking and sneering at any criticism? What makes you better than the supposedly closed minded Christians you rail against?
Why can't you see that 1/5th of the world living under Communism still is a serious problem, and that it was spread through political propaganda, and that it was atheist? Do you live in the world of propagada?
1/5th of the world is more than a billion people. Why is it wrong to care about this group? I care about the failures of the Christian church tremendously. It is something I think about a lot. Why don't you care about the failures of atheism?

And I don't know about the atheist movement, sorry, can't comment. I'm not part of such a thing. I'm sure they're a bunch of radicals.

Do you know who Christopher Hitchens is? Do you know who Stephen J Gould is? Do you know who Bertrand Russell is? Do you know who Karl Marx is? What sort of importance do those figures have to the atheist movement?
Your ignorance is glowing off of the screen.

Your ignorance is glowing off of the screen. I know Chris. I don't know what importance they have to the atheist movement. I'm not sure what the atheist movement is, I already told you, man. I'm ignorant. Educate me, sir.

So on the one hand, every christian that does something to embarrass the religion or is a hypocrite is obviously not a true christian.
On the other, every atheist who believes in something you feel is wrong is absolutely, bindingly, one hundred percent representative of the atheist community. Double standard, much?
Oh, and Drich? Come on, man. I would have thought you would have matured past this kind of petty one upping when you turned ten. Grow up.
