I don't know music either.
Well, I used to like Michael Jackson's songs the most (and I still do), but I don't have any favorite bands or anything.
I also like certain rap songs. My favorite ones are by Eminem.
I like rap songs like that especially because of the rhymes and the powerful lyrics that they have. Then again, like others have said, the taste for music is something highly subjective. One person might find a song incredibly good while another person might think to himself "WTF? How can anyone even listen to that type of music? It's horrible!"

I think I like rap most too, because it sort of energizes me and it feels like powerful lyrics (although I'm a little confused what he is going on about and trying to say).
I listened to about 5 songs of him, and they are a little confusing what he is trying to convey.
I like the pride coming out of the music though. It inspires me.

I like the type of music that typical gay men like. There are a few exceptions. I do not like Barbra Streisand or Nicki Minaj or Ke$ha. The two genres of music I dislike the most would be rap, which I do not consider to be music at all, and the kind of heavy metal where there is nothing but horrible screeching guitar sounds and incomprehensible vocal screaming.
My favorite artists include: Britney Spears, Cher, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Scissor Sisters, Lady Gaga, Shania Twain, Corporate Avenger (the one exception to the heavy metal rule. If you have ever listened to any of their music, you would understand why), Deborah Cox.
It is obvious that I prefer female artists.

I like all music and am dismayed that you have not grown up with music (both you and rayaan) this seems silly to me.
You will like what you like Mystic. Just try it all ..
Right now I am in need of a bit of soothing music, what I call gratuitous background noise, that I find calming and helps keep the blood pressure down. I can't imagine life without music and dancing.

Maybe it's the speed that makes it difficult to understand. And rap songs also have a lot of words in them. So, that could be the reason for that.

That would be all of it.
MK, if you're taking a liking to rap, you can try House of Pain. A bit old school, but I am still mesmerized by the repetitive teakettle whine in Jump Around.

Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

THAT is really sexy and I like it.
Perhaps this is why you are so moderate?

Au contraire. If you're looking for metal that's more palatable, I'd suggest looking closer to its origins of where it broke off from the Rock family tree. Ie: Early metal bands, before it was considered a seperate genre, like Black Sabbath. I find if I don't "get" a genre, exploring its roots helps. Like Sabbath, it doesn't sound like anything that had come out before and if you listen to other metal, you can hear their influence on the genre (easier the earlier the release date).
All that being said, to me, Death Metal is angry noise

Here's some rap that I like...
This is a project called Deltron 3030, but the rapper is Del tha funkee homosapien.
Then there's Mos Def.
And of course, The Beastie Boys.
