If you compare the average salary of black families in the North with those in the South the average southern black family makes a little more than their northern counterparts.

But EVERYWHERE whites make more than blacks. There are just, percentage wise, more blacks living in the South. Hence southern states are poorer.

I'm a white atheist male with a college degree. My GPA at graduation was 3.85/4.0. But the stereotype is I'm an uneducated dolt because I'm southern. The town I live in was called by some magazine, Time or something like that, the most educated small town in the US a few years back. (less than 100,000 population)

Works both ways, there is certainly a double standard not only in society but on this thread as well where black on white racism is almost completely overlooked and shrugged off as though it isn't a problem or simply doesn't happen. I don't think anyone is claiming that it is on the same level or even comparable considering the oppression black people have faced throughout history and routinely do every day no doubt, but whites can be victims of racism as well, and it shouldn't be shrugged off the same way as you just did. The entire country? I might not know as much about the US as others, but I do know that the south was agriculuraly dominant whilest the north was industrialised and had a big service sector. And that the responsibilities resulting out of the horrors of slavery for the north are that they profited economicaly through the manifacturing of goods for which the raw materials were produced in the south - oppertunism.

The south is not portraied in our popular media because we couldnt care lass and have our own european sterotyps ranging from the lazy spaniard, the sleazy italian, the posh brit, the gemütliche french, the humorless german, the nude scandinavian and poor polish man.
