Blind faith and evolution
RE: Blind faith and evolution
Just a quick amendment to the above:

I meant that Philosophy Majors are not the ONLY ones that can use common sense to come to conclusions. My Albuquerque reference stands as is.

The old saying...........IF YOU WANT TO KNOW ALL YOU GOT TO KNOW YOURSELF.
The spirit is within.
Outside there is only the illusion.
If outside you is only an illusion, then why the great effort to "educate" others?

As everything in life you got to do a lot of hard work before you can enjoy the fruit of your labour.
Out of every hundreds of people who start this hard work you may find 1 or 2 that continue until they reach high stages of consciousness.
I did gave up many times out of frustration but after sometime i came back with more determination.
Once you understand that the problem stay with you until you solve it then you also understand that is much better to solve it as soon as possible.

Quote:Do you do much observation of your mind when meditating?

You can not meditate if you observe.
You got to focus on the essence of your spirit and forget the rest.

Quote:When you're not meditating, how much internal dialogue do you engage in?

You still can concentrate on your ista mantra and your spiritual relation with the cosmic consciousness even when you are not sitting in a meditation position but is not that easy as i just said above because when the mind and the senses are active the concentration is not strong.

Quote:What is your opinion of the value of discursive thought?

Meditation is concentration on the deep of your essence so the more you practice and the more you control your mind.
When you are able to keep your mind under control you will be able to spend less time in thought that are not important.
In other word you control the mind so the mind will not be able to control you and make you waste precious time wondering in not useful pursuits.Angel

Others?
That is when philosophy or wisdom come to help to understand how the system works.
After a while that you engage in spirituality you understand that there is no division or separation between you and everything and everybody else so the term OTHER does not exist anymore or at least play a very small role.
Everything is a mental projection of the cosmic consciousness and therefore the separation is only an illusion.
But what is an illusion for the thinker is a reality for the creation of this thinking.
Evolution is the way to go back to the reality or to go back to the thinker consciousness.
This is not possible if we keep a sense of separation in this material-physical reality so evolution or going back to this supreme consciousness involve awareness of unity with all the rest.

The word does have an older and broader meaning than that given it by Darwin. Gradual change over time seems like the gist of it. Biological evolution is devoid of teleological purpose. Giraffes didn't grow their necks longer so that they could reach the upper branches, etc.

Personally I think there is no basis for answering the question: is the development of star stuff into organic material, multicellular organisms and sentient beings headed somewhere? Does the universe in some sense know what it is up to? Is there a goal in any of this? In the total absence of evidence, I have to answer "probably not".

The purpose of physical evolution is not for pleasing the physical aspect but to allow the consciousness to go ahead.
When your old car become a bomb not been able to travel in the new super highway anymore then you need a new car that will keep pace with the new situation.
The same happen with the body and mind.
The homo erectus had the body and the mind in tune with his environment so we.
As the car serve the driver also the body and mind serve the human being or the real I.
So the change happen in order to allow the consciousness to move forward not for other reasons.Angel

Thanks for proving bennyboy's observation.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Oh wow this thread is still going on. And still equally ridiculous as 10 or so pages ago when enrico claimed elements fissure because they crave freedom. Well, this time, you went wrong when you compared a designed object (a car) to a product of evolution. The first was created for a purpose, the second was not created.

Will there be a brief synopsis of this thread available later, or do I need to buy hip waders and just dive in?
